Tips The Tutorials Don't Tell

Thanks for the tips.   I have had all the needed components to do the exploit but always get error 21.  I guess the memory card (AR) is the culprit.  I'll go grab a MadCatz one then.

Anything else?

ct8055.  Don't tell me I'm wrong.  While switching saves may have worked for you, I tried every save under the sun, and it only worked when I switched memory cards.  Again, don't tell me I'm wrong because I just fucking did it last night.  Is it not possible that either problem could occur?

Uhh you just stuck your foot in your mouth right there.
The fact that you had a different out come with different memory cards prove little. You might have had a busted memory card.  By not mentioning this in previous posts and by the wording you wrote, it seems that you've transfered other saves. If you can transfer any save at all would make me beleive that it's a human error, not the card's.
ct8055 is just posting to let others know that his results varied. Lay off. DaCocoBrova and others might waiste money on a memory card they don't even need.

this is a moot point.  For the sake of the thread I'll drop it.  It wasn't human error...It is possible that an AR device won't work for you, and you will need to buy a real mem card.  Other threads indicate other users with similar experiences.

acctually its not the card its the driver and it can be fixed by going in the control panel then add new hardware next click next untill it askes you if you let windows detect new hardware select no then pick memory technology drivers (MTDs) then click next pick flash memory card 1 and then next it will install the drivers and that should fix the problem

OK, well, I'm going to have to ask you to trust me on this one.  I know how to install drivers.  I know how to copy files, and use a USB removable storage device.  Please, for the love of all that's good and holy, for the love of God, beleive me when I say that the Action Replay was bad, and that a regular memory card worked.  Is it so unbeleivable that I may have half of a mother fucking clue what the fuck I'm doing, since I've already fucking gone through the whole fucking process?

Shrug, action replay right outa the box worked fine for me earlier in the month.  Just used the action replay software to import the saved game onto the card.

Ok then here is my question... what's wrong with using the evox savegame exploit and then installing linux via FTP?  Evox can't possibly take up more space then a normal save game.  Once you have access to the harddrive via FTP you can place anything on the xbox.

There is always the option of buring a linux install cd-rw or dvd....   I don't understand why the gamesave exploit would HAVE to be a large linux distro installer..

AR card worked for me as well, right out of the box with the included software.

OK, update:

I've tried the following:

* InterAct card: AR program crashes when trying to write to it.
* AR card: AR program can write to it, but big files get corrupted (vmlinuz, rcinitd).
* MS card: AR program can write to it, the files do not get corrupted.

Then it's the matter of save game:
* Set of three save games (emergency, restart, install) from codejunkies.com: Hangs the Xbox.
* Save games from xbox-linux.sourceforge.net: Not recognized by AR program.
* Save games from xbox-linux.sourceforge.net, repacked correctly: Works, boots Linux on the Xbox.

"Repacked correctly" means to put the numbered directory in the "original" directory (since I have a non-updated MechAssault) in a 'UDATA' directory, making three copies of it, and then making zip files of it but only with one of the lowest-level numbered directory in each.  That is, unpacking the three zips in the current directory should give you this structure:

MechAssaul_EmergencyL/
MechAssaul_EmergencyL/UDATA/
MechAssaul_EmergencyL/UDATA/4d530017/
MechAssaul_EmergencyL/UDATA/4d530017/48D918775FFB
MechAssaul_InstallLin/
MechAssaul_InstallLin/UDATA/
MechAssaul_InstallLin/UDATA/4d530017/
MechAssaul_InstallLin/UDATA/4d530017/E8FF68C9193B
MechAssaul_RestoreDas/
MechAssaul_RestoreDas/UDATA/
MechAssaul_RestoreDas/UDATA/4d530017/
MechAssaul_RestoreDas/UDATA/4d530017/3F0EFB83E4C
