Fyi Dvd Replacement
« on: December 21, 2003, 08:08:00 AM »

Hi,
I have been trying to find my Samsung 616e ready point all day and in desperation I opened my Liteon HD166s and to my supprise its identical to the Sony DDU1612 that Rob Scott wrote on 14/09/2002 -> http://dwl.xbox-scene.net/~xbox/xbox-scene...ony_DDU1612.pdf

I'm off to Maplins tomorrow to get my 74ls00 ;) and I'll let you know how I get on.
Regards,
Cyclops :D

@ cyclops69

Can you please confirm that they are identical?!? I'm, searching for a replacement drive and have trouble finding any of the drives mentioned on the board :-(

Thanks a lot in advance,

Cube

Does the Sony DDU1612 allow reading of original games? From what I have discerned from the forums and tutorials, you must flash the firmware of the DVD with the original XBOX dvd drive firmware. Can you do this with the Sony DDU1612?

Hi,
Yes, the Liteon HD 166s is the same as the Sony DDU1612.
I have now fitted it and performed the mod with the 74ls00 and it works pretty well.
Observations so far:
DVD-R's and DVD-RW's  load very fast :) it should be ok with DVD+R's and DVD+RW's as it read them fine in my PC.
Read Audio CD-R's :)
Reads my Slayer's EVOX installer disc which is on a CD-RW

It will not read original games :(
And if you insert a disc whilst in EVOX Dash it doesn't seem to recognise it until you reboot, not sure why...

If I get time, I will try and grab a few pics before Christmas

Something not quite right there........

coz I got all stuff working except for originals on a normal dvd drive without needing a nand gate chip

evox will identify the disc types, dvd region free player will play the dvd's, xbmp will play my divx's etc....
& HDD Loader will install my backup's onto h/d as per usual

only thing is it doesn't auto close if you power off the xbrick with the tray open - that is down to the 605b's firmware

If you just wire in a pc drive it will not recognise a disc

evox will say "tray open" - you will not be able to use hdd loader/xbmp/dvd reg free etc....

however - if you reset / boot console with backup in that pc drive it "should" boot the game

you will have no real control over the drive but you do get to see how well a certain dvd drive reads some of your backup media

for proper use of a pc drive you will need to locate and wire into the yellow connector....

TRAY IN
TRAY OUT
EJECT
READY

these are located on the dvd drive but varies from drive to drive - a multi meter will help
