Aladdin Advance
« on: August 07, 2004, 09:41:00 PM »

Hi Guys

Recently modded an xbox with aladdin advance 64 - worked fine initially, played for days all working ok, including all software installed, now however when i use it, i can only load games by putting them in the drive and then starting up the xbox.

I initially thought this was due to just a dvd problem however, i cannot use the dvd player features, cannot use flashing software or any other software it just freezes on the evox loading screen.

Have tried everything i know - is it possibly a hard drive prob?

Any help would be appreciated, until then ill keep scouring the forums

Cheers guys

before you check out hardware problems why not check the software endd first?

you could try booting from an evox-cd (slayers perhaps), connecting via ftp, and replacing the dashboard files. This should be an easy task and if it is a problem with the dashboard itself, it should fix it.

This happens to me as well!
I have an Aladdin Advance and no matter what dashboard I install none of the programs or emulators work, the xbox freezes on the loading screen.

This has happened on 2 xbox's with the aladdin advance chips??

Any ideas guys?

It's not the modchip - as it seems to be working fine. If the modchip wasn't working, then you wouldn't be able to boot the xbox up at all (well, at least without it fragging).

I would guess that it's a software problem. Either your EvoX isn't setup correctly or you're missing some files. Also, it's possible that some of your cache files may be corrupt. I would try deleting them (can't remember offhand, but I think it's the E:/UDATA and E:/TDATA folders that you have to empty - just do a quick search).

I cleared both folders in the E Drive but nothing changed on the box, still freezes when trying to load applications.

I have searched and searched and there just doesn't seem to be any info on this?

Any help is appreciated.

Sorry guys,... I have no idea then. I would check the EvolutionX forum and see if you can find something over there - as I think it sounds like it's a problem with your EvoX.

I was having the same problem but what fixed it for me as redoing the BT and L1 connections (I know it makes no sense but thats what I did), the only reason I redid those connections in the 1st place was becasue the led on the xbox was staying green when the modchip was on instead of orange and I though this was what was causing the freezing, I turn out to be right.

But at the same time it made no sense the Evox loads fine and every other program doen'st work. I even tried loading programs from an install CD (like slayer's) but that still didn't work, it would just load the Evox menu and when I tried to load anything else it just hanged. I tried the Avalaunch dashboard aswell, and nothing happened.

I'm no expert but I think it has to be some bad connection somewhere. Now I am having the same problem again but this time the LED is the right color so I know is not the BT or L1 connections.

Tha Aladdin Advance chips aren't crap. There are a bunch of nasty clones floating around that are horrible. I had an entire batch of clones shipped to me by accident and had nothing but problems with them.

I don't think I've yet to run into a problem with an actual Aladdin Advance chip yet (and I've installed a pile of them!).

The clones that I had were using a different Lattice chip. Obviously they were cutting corners and used some cheap chip instead - and I think this is what was causing the problem with those chips (as I tested out the SST chips on them and they were fine). Does the chip you're having problems with have 'Lattice' written right on the chip itself?

Some people assume that the mod chip is the important part of the whole system, in my opinion this is false since the chip is just a container for an alternate BIOS. It is the BIOS which determines features so when your aladdin and a friends X2Lite 2.3b run the same BIOS they have the same features :) I would say your HDD is crapping out, and on its was out. Try with a different unlocked HDD.
