Quick answer: No.

It's theoretically possible to override that behavior via software -- the Phoenix guys looked into it and said that it would take a disgusting amount of reverse engineering to figure out how, though.

For now, the only way to stop it is to either use a modchip or cut the relevant line leading to the PIC.
