But I CAN flash a totally blank cheapmod with a cheapLPC programmer using the milk program and the 'bios' i need, correct?

(I have all my ducks in a row, just need to be dogmatic on the subject of flashing my cheapmod!)

i was doing testing with other 1.6 box's thats why..you dont even need to repair the lps you can just connect the chip directly to the points that were supposed to be repaired to lpc

Ok, wasnt inferring that you didnt know how to put a header in hehe, I just hadnt seen pics of a header and it seemed odd.  I swear ive heard that even just flashing the cheapie with m8_1.6 on an older board could potentially render it unuseable although admittedly it makes no sense to me at all.  I have a board that i flashed a cheapmod on with m8_1.6, worked perfectly before the flash, now it doesnt work at all.  Took the wire off the mcpx, ungrounded the d0, nada, wont even boot to the TSOP.  The box NEVER booted with that chip (1.6 bios), it was just flashed (hot swapped)  Any of your ideas are welcome because this just seems too weird to be coincidence.  Thanks for posting this xboxexpert!   beerchug.gif

no its a completley different method - you have to get the lframe direct from an MCPX via - very very very difficult. The post is around here somewhere - search for it

m8 or m8_16?(you probably meant m8_16 but im just clarifying because we all know that these are COMPLETELY different bios).  Just curious, because i know that m8 can boot on any box.  Im just wondering about a m8_16 bios being flashed on a non 1.6 board.  NOT booted up on that board, but just flashing the chip on that board.  Again it sounds silly that simply flashing a chip on the board could corrupt it but in this scene ive seen stranger things.  Wondering if anyone has had a similar experience......

*btw, the symptoms are the same as if you corrupted the eeprom.  And yes Ive embedded proms into bios's and done the cromwell patch to restore it.  Nada.

Well that makes about as much sense as my problems, which is that it makes NO sense at all.  Im not sure if our experiences are legitimate at all because the psu on the 1.3 is fine, just the mobo is fubar.  Two totally different outcomes just doesnt conclusively say anything.  Can anyone help out on this?  Have you flashed m8_16 onto a chip on a board other than a 1.6 one?  Any problems?  Need to know, im not willing to keep ruining mobos no matter how many i have.  Thanks.   beerchug.gif

There is ABSOLUTLY no reason that flashing a modchip with m8_16 on a non v1.6 xbox will damage it.  All you are doing is copying the data from the harddrive onto the chip.  Booting the xbox after flashing is a different story because you are then actually using the bios.  I have flashed with m8_16 on a v1.1 and v1.4 will no problems.

I did flash 1.4 xbox with focus chipset by mistake with m8_16 which worked fine. I only noticed after it was flashed when I noticed the Evo X logo top left corner. and no executer 2 logo at bottom
