Ma Exploit For Japan?
« on: August 13, 2003, 10:39:00 PM »

Hi There...

I'm in Japan (Tokyo) too... I just got my Xbox and really want to try the save game exploit too. I still need to build my usb->xbox cable though.

Do you know of any places in Japan that sells mod-chips?

Unfortunately, no.  If I did, I would have bought another one by now and be done with it.  I pretty much live in Den Den towh (Nippombashi) Osaka, and I know everyone in all the game shops.  None of them have ever modded a console or even seen a modded console (any type, not just XB). MODs are ultra rare here.

I think the reason for this is two fold.  One is that there is basically no need.  Usually gamers awant a MOD to either play imports or play pirate copies.  Japanese have no real reason to play imports, they get all the software first anyway (and can read the language), and the presence of re-sale (read used) software shops makes the effort to pirate copies unatractive.  In the US major chains are only just starting to handle used software, but in Japan it's been going on since the days of the Famicom (NES).  You also don't get quite as gouged by these shops as you do by the ones in the US.  You can buy a game brand new, take it home for the weekend, and bring it back to one of these shops and get within a few hundered yen of what you paid for it.  It's like renting!

The other reason is that Japanese regulations on MODs and equiptment to MOD are VERY strick (always siding with large companies since Japanese government is driven mostly by who bribed who the most, and your average Japanese is just a sheep being led to slaughter.).  I think I would probably go to jail just for the stuff I brought with me from the US.  It's not contraband, but the penalty would probably be just as severe.  Don't tell anyone, ok?   ph34r.gif

After having said that, I would still like to reiterate my willingness to help in any way I can to forward the effort of making the save game exploits work on Japanese versions of software.  If you are involved in this effort please contact me.

Thanks again,

J

Yaeh, I have noticed how rare mods are here. I guess I'll just order a chip from the USA then.

What did you use to transfer the hacked game save to the xbox? USB enabled controller with official memory card?

To: DeadJB

So, do you have the save game exploit running on a japanese xbox? What version xbox do you have? What did you use to transfer the game save to the xbox?

What version xbox do you other guys have? Maybe the save game exploit works on some japanese systems but not others?

I don't think anyone has made it work yet.  I've tried all the boxes I can get my hands on now.  Two 1.0 (a regular edition, and the limited transparent case), and a 1.1.  No luck anywhere.  If someone does get it to work, I also would be very interested in specifics.

Thanks again,

It's official I guess. This is what it says you need for the no-chip hack on the xbox linux page.

any Xbox (except for the Japanese version)

oh well, i guess this answers my question regarding the compatibility of the saved game exploit.. i thought it will work with unmodded xboxes of different regions.

anyway, i live in the philippines.
i wonder if there's someone who can help me here test this gamesave exploit (by lending a japanese mechassault game and an xbox memory card)... it seems im remotely located.  tongue.gif

MechAssault is actually a region-free game I believe... so you could purchase the US MechAssault, and use it on your JP XBOX.  A few XboxLive games are region-free, and MechAssault is one of them.

<s>I've got EvoX and PBL running properly now, however is that true that as long as the font hack is in use (i.e the font file renamed) I can't get back to the MSDashboard (I keep getting error21 if I try to run the dashboard from evox</s>
saw the other part of gouki's tutorial..fixed now =D

your xboxdash.xbe is looking to load xbox.xtf and xbox book.xtf you have renamed them hense the error 21 when you try loading ms dashboard you need to make a backup copy of the xboxdash.xbe file from your xbox C partition to your pc open it with a hex editor and make it look for xft extensions rather than xtf that way you can have both bert and ernie .xtf font files and have your original xbox and xbox book files there too just renamed to .xft extenions then put the hex edited xboxdash.xbe in your xbox E partition when you launch it from there its still looking to load now xft files from c:fonts

hope i made it clear enough sometimes i cant understand things i have just written myself tongue.gif

also take a look in the dashboard exploit area of the forums not the gamesave one to find shitloads of information about hex editing your xboxdash.xbe file Good Luck and have fun ofcourse.
