I was checking through that thread and I saw that these are mostly problems with the card being recognized by the software/Xbox. My card is being recognized by the computer and the Xbox. The save appears on my card, it just leads to the ERR21 screen when it's loaded. Do you think editing the AR config files will change this?

I have been trying the MechAssault game save hack on a virgin 1.0 XBox without success. I was using a "Nuby" brand memory card. Once "Run Linus" is selected, the service screen appears, with flashing red/green LED.

So, I experimented with a chipped XBox (X2.2Pro), and to my surprise, the hack did not work either when the modchip is disabled. But with the modchip enabled, the hack works. I FTP'ed the game save files from E:UDATA... to the PC. File comparison with winhex reveals that all files are identical to the original zipped files, except for default.xbe, which is different at offset 0x100 to 0x1FFF. Suspecting that default.xbe was somehow "unsigned", I directly FTP'ed the original (from zipped file) default.xbe to E:UDATA... and the hack works.

Without going into too much details, I discovered that once default.xbe is copied into the memory card, it became unsigned. This happens whether I FTP'ed the file directly to the memory card, or copied from the hard drive using M$ dash. Hypothesizing that maybe the game controller was responsible for this, I hooked up the memory card to a different controller. But I have the same result.

In conclusion, the "Nuby" memory card unsigned the default.xbe file and circumvented the game save hack. Now, if I can get a hold of an original M$ memory card, I can test to see if the hack will work as the above posts indicated.

I bought an original MS memory card and got the hack to work with the AR software/connection. Thanks, x-wave, VG and everyone else!

Now, I've got a new problem. I've got my box connected with an ethernet cable to my network port on my computer. The computer I'm connected to does not have internet at all. I've got the settings set up exactly to Mad Gouki's tutorial. When I go to the settings in the EvoX screen, I get a No Link! message and nothing in the first two lines. When I try and FTP into the address using WS_FTP it times out.

I'm using a comp running Win98se with WS_FTP. Any thoughts?

hmm.. A pick install evox form the evox menu and see if that activates the ftp...
2nd... make sure your ethernet cable is plugged in all the way

Installed evox and it didn't do anything. Still get the No Link! message. Double checked the ethernet cables. Thanks anyways.

Any other ideas?

I have an AR with the AR memory card and haven't gotten anything to work either. I am about to get a M$ memory card and see if that works. I'll let you know as soon as I do.

look i have confirmed it, the gamesave exploit DOES NOT WORK with 3rd party memory cards, i just got an official one and got it working.

Actually I think it depends on the type of 3rd party card used. I tried the Action Replay method but I kept getting an Error 21 using the Action Replay card supplied, regardless of what hacked savegame I used. I took that back figuring I'd have to try to hotswap, but then I decided to try connecting my controller to my PC via the "no action replay" method by Vintage Guitar. After getting the controller working, I used a crappy Gamester memory card with the right settings inserted (thanks to the USBIO dev kit demo) in the Action Replay drivers (and then used those to install the card when inserted in the controller. Sure enough, after having Error 21s til I was blue in the face with the Action Replay and its card, it booted up Evox the first try.

I'm not sure if its the Action Replay device that is at fault or the memory card they give you to use with it, but there are 3rd party mem cards that work with the exploit. Whether they work with the Action Replay, that is another story. Anyway, good luck to the rest of you, and beware the Action Replay.

when i find a fix that supports 90% of all 3rd party memory cards, i will add this too my tutorial,but i don't own any so i can't play with settings and such. but yeah, that is pretty shitty, when the thing that's built too transfer saves doesn't do it correctly, and cutting up shit home-brewing it DOES work..kinda funny..

Hey, just wanted everyone to know that I, like others mentioned in the forum, went out and purchase the MS memory unit and tried the whole procedure again...........and well, it was a beautiful sight to see evox load up on the very first boot. So, obviously thier is definitely something dealing with action repaly memory unit that somehow unsigns the .xbe

So, I just wanted to thank everyone for your input....you have all been very helpful.

I too would like to thank everyone!! I got it working buy going out and getting a m$ card as well. It works great! after all this aggravation. DON'T USE THE AR system!
