Just to clear something up-

I opened my xbox controller socket, and soldered a female connector onto it, so i could plug a USB stick in for use as a memory card. However i found out that 1.6 xbox's (The newest ones) don't allow you to use these as memory cards anymore. I then unsoldered the female and replaced it with the male. Looking at the connectors you can see RED BLACK YELLOW and GREEN, so naturally i thought RED-RED, BLACK-BLACK, GREEN-GREEN, YELLOW-WHITE (As i knew yellow wasnt used by USB) However when i plugged this into the computer to use it as a control pad using XBCD it didnt work, and when trying to edit the .inf and reinstall i got the error "The device is not supported by........". I saw that some of you had seen this error and thought i'd tell you what it is.
Although the wires inside the cable may be the same colour, it doesn't mean that they are the same data transfer wires. (Mine should've been YELLOW-GREEN, GREEN-WHITE). So if anyone else is trying to use a crappy extension cable they got with their MP3 player, this is how the wires should be soldered.

k, first, to masterchief, to answer your question, your filles were corrupted while saving, this can happen with 3rd party cards, sorry.

second, i dont know if this has been has already been cleared up, but:

i wanted to make an action replay, so i spliced an xbox break away cable with a USB connecter (works) and downloaded the AR software (works), i also downloaded the drivers for the controller (works).
however, when i reboot and insert my Arsenal 8MB memory card, it says found new hardware, plese select driver. i direct it to where i insalled AR, and when i open the drivers folder, there is nothing in there, and i cant access my card.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this, or where i can download the software(i know its free) but i need one which has the driver there.

I have a gamester 8mb memory card also but my windows xp is having trouble configuring the device.. Ive followed all the steps, ive even changed the device driver to :

%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USBVID_05FD&PID_DBAE
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USBVID_05FD&PID_0316
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USBVID_045E&PID_0280
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USBVID_0738&PID_4507
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USBVID_0E4C&PID_044B   <----Gamster

But my computer doesnt recognize it. When i try to drag something to the memory card on action replay, it doesnt take it..it doesnt even allow me to place anythin in there.. what am i doing wrong is there somwthing else i have to change?

When I download the AR software from above It says error:uninstallshield has been detected running or something like that and this thing comes up and says something has made an illegal error or something so I just press ignore for all of them and then it just goes away and I cant install it.

Help.

QUOTE(galladel @ Mar 31 2004, 04:36 AM) View Post

Hmmm is anyone still reading this?  Anyways, i wanted to add my little bit here.  The reason you want to "make your own" is really to save a few bucks right?  Why spend 29.99 on a MS memory card when you can buy a cheapo no name thrustmaster memory card for 14.00 i hear some places you can buy ms memory cards for 25.00 bucks but even still being able to use a cheap o memory card should save you at least 10 bucks so here are the steps to get said "cheap-o-memory card"to work with Action replay drivers.

1.  Get usbview.exe google it it's easy to find.
2.  Attach your controler and install it(you should have no problem here)
3.  Attach your cheap-o-memory card(this is where the trouble starts)
at this point you deviate from the standard tutorial if your cheap-o-memory card is not supported.
4. Once the "found new device" warning pops up open up usbview.exe do not install drivers!
5. You should find an unnamed "device" connected right with your xbox controler select this pane and look for "idVendor" and "idProduct".
6. Go to where you installed Action replay and inside the folder "drivers" open up the file "xbreader.inf" with notepad or txtpad in there find the sectiong that has this:

[_Devices]

%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_DBAE
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_0316
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_045E&PID_0280
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_0738&PID_4507
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_040B&PID_6520

Take note of "VID"=idVendor  "PID"=idProduct!
wow how simple was that?
7.copy the last line and paste it on the next empty line so it should look like this
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_DBAE
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_0316
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_045E&PID_0280
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_0738&PID_4507
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_040B&PID_6520
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_040B&PID_6520
8. Replace the lines info with what USBview gives you for instance my 14.00 cheap-o-memory card info was this:
idVendor 044F
idProduct 0F0C
so the last line should look like
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_044F&PID_0F0C

so now your segment should look like this

%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_DBAE
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_0316
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_045E&PID_0280
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_0738&PID_4507
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_040B&PID_6520
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_044F&PID_0F0C

9. Save the file and try to make windows search for the driver again!
10. Use your 10.00 to 15.00 saved to buy a copy of 007:AUF!

Well I'm not doing it to save money, i am just determined to get the damn thing working, I have done exactly as you have done then updated the driver and still when i try to drag and drop the LINUX file onto the memory card from PC the Action Replay Software crashes, if you manage to get anywhere with this I would be grateful if you would let me know P.S. My Memory card is a cheap and nasty chinese thing, i would go and buy a genuine one but knowbody sells them round here....

cheers

hey. I did this mod to ym wireless controller and made the adapter part of it a usb cable. i hadn't downloaded the HID drivers yet but i decided to plug it into my computer anyways and it detected it as a game controller..and if i go to device manager it says "Human Interface Device: Game Controller"

does it matter if it did this without the drivers? will the action replay thing still work?
