« on: February 15, 2004, 06:08:00 PM »

Ok I know on the first part I seen something about certian memory cards... I bought an action replay to try the saved game and I can not get it to work with this flimzy little memory card that it provided... I was wondering if you think it might help if I pick up a MS Memory card?

Well the tutorial tells how to make it into an action replay but what driver would you use to make it into an mxk?

The extension cables for the controllers are available at Gamestop and Electronics Boutique in the US (probably even Toys R Us and places like that). They're not that rare.

tongue.gif  (Codebreaker is an "action-replay-like" but it don't require any hard-lock unlike the action replay.... see http://www.cmgsccc.c...thread.php?t=31 for more info)

That's all, thanks people and see you ! (sorry for my english, hope you'll understand what i've wrote  smile.gif )

use MS brand, action replay ones are flawed.

Thanks for this GREAT Tutorial!!!  beerchug.gif

FYI,  made my own Xbox to USB cable this week-end (using one of my controllers break away cable and a spare standard USB cable).

Used Xtcrl drivers to get Action Replay to recognize the xbox controller.  And was about to go out and buy an xbox memory card.

But then I hooked up the xbox/usb cable up to a USB Compact Flash reader I have (Accomdata brand that I got from Staples for $2-3 on sale).  Used that and managed to Xbox format both a 16meg and 256meg CF card.  Used USBIO (you can also use a freeware program called USB View) and configured the reader as an Action Replay!!!  biggrin.gif

Using my makeshift xbox memory card, I used Morden's Audio Exploit (Splinter Cell with MechAssault code), plus updating my dash to 4290 (that stumped me for quite a while), and have set up my Xbox with XBMP and have played DivX, XviD and mp3s of SMB shares on my win2k PC!!!   jester.gif

Now if only I can figure out why my Video playback freezes in XBMP and I have to reboot to finish watching movies!!!  sad.gif

Got it working, what exactly do I DO inside the action replay software?

When I try to drop it in it says its not a valid xbox save.

Hmmm is anyone still reading this?  Anyways, i wanted to add my little bit here.  The reason you want to "make your own" is really to save a few bucks right?  Why spend 29.99 on a MS memory card when you can buy a cheapo no name thrustmaster memory card for 14.00 i hear some places you can buy ms memory cards for 25.00 bucks but even still being able to use a cheap o memory card should save you at least 10 bucks so here are the steps to get said "cheap-o-memory card"to work with Action replay drivers.

1.  Get usbview.exe google it it's easy to find.
2.  Attach your controler and install it(you should have no problem here)
3.  Attach your cheap-o-memory card(this is where the trouble starts)
   at this point you deviate from the standard tutorial if your cheap-o-memory card is not supported.
4. Once the "found new device" warning pops up open up usbview.exe do not install drivers!
5. You should find an unnamed "device" connected right with your xbox controler select this pane and look for "idVendor" and "idProduct".
6. Go to where you installed Action replay and inside the folder "drivers" open up the file "xbreader.inf" with notepad or txtpad in there find the sectiong that has this:

[_Devices]

%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_DBAE
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_0316
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_045E&PID_0280
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_0738&PID_4507
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_040B&PID_6520

Take note of "VID"=idVendor  "PID"=idProduct!
wow how simple was that?
7.copy the last line and paste it on the next empty line so it should look like this

%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_DBAE
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_0316
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_045E&PID_0280
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_0738&PID_4507
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_040B&PID_6520
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_040B&PID_6520
8. Replace the lines info with what USBview gives you for instance my 14.00 cheap-o-memory card info was this:
idVendor 044F
idProduct 0F0C
so the last line should look like
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_044F&PID_0F0C

so now your segment should look like this

%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_DBAE
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_05FD&PID_0316
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_045E&PID_0280
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_0738&PID_4507
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_040B&PID_6520
%S_DeviceDesc1%=_Install1, USB\VID_044F&PID_0F0C

9. Save the file and try to make windows search for the driver again!
10. Use your 10.00 to 15.00 saved to buy a copy of 007:AUF!

No Action-replay / Mega X-key Tutorial
« Reply #11 on: April 11, 2004, 11:58:00 AM »

Right please direct me to the right place if this has already bin answered but im trying to do the 007 hack and i cant get my pc to accept the new xbox controller.

I understand everything about how the 007 hack works
I have...
007:AUF
Ms Memory Card
Ms Controller
Ethernet Crossover cable
USB cable i used for my old digital camera, has a USB>Square end

all the required files on my pc including:
007 save hack files
Evox files
xctrl driver ini file
Action reply drivers and software

So i think im set

I snipped the end off my xbox controller extention
Plugged my xbox controller into there with memory card out of it
stripped and seperated the coloured wires inside the extention end
Snipped the square end off my usb cable leaving the USB end still on
Stripped and seperated the colours wires inside it
Matched up the colours on the USB and the controller extention and twisted them together.
Red = Red
White = White
Black = Black
Green = Green
Yellow = Snipped
Silver coating snipped off as it complicates things.

Right so now i have an XBOX controller with a USB end.
Xbox controller > Inline Release >CUT **Twisted copper wires** > CUT USBmale > Computer

I plug into the PC xctrl at the ready and action reply software installed.
WINDOWS XP: "USB DEVICE FOUND"
WINDOWS XP: "Unknown Device"
(please not when tried on my friends computer windows xp pro: "The device was not recognised or there was a malfunction with this device"

So i think, right i'll need to tell it where the xctrl drivers are
(their in c:\windows\desktop\xctrl\xctrl.ini)
so i go to device manager
____________usb host devices
_______________unknown device
__________________properties
_____________________UPDATE DRIVER [button]
________________________Search for driver in....
_____________________________"../desktop\xctrl\"
                                                         NEXT
___"SEARCHING FOR DRIVERS"
         ...
____"Could not find drivers for unknown device"

so i try and specicially tell it specically where my driver is (ini file)
ITS IN F*CKING DESKTOP/XCTRL/XCTRL.INI
"This file does not contain driver information about your device"

Ok so lets try USBview

[Port1] USB MODEM
[Port2] DeviceFailedEnumeration: Unknown Device (this is where the wire is plugged in)

All values in port two are similar to 0000 or 0x000 or 0x00

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!
What am i doing wrong?

I have tried minicontroller HID drivers or wateva they are called and that still doesnt work.  This has happened on 3 computers i have tried it on and ive tried a different USB wire incase it was that but it still doesnt work.

please reply when you can.

Tom

Hey, I wanted to give a shout out to Torrance from the page before this one on how to get your USB key to be a "Action Replay Card."  I went through the steps and got it to be as such, but Action Replay software didn't  recongize my card even though Device Manger said so.  I'm assuming it could just be my card, so I just wanted to second this process.  Good Job!

Update:  I just tried it with a 16 CF card I had lying around and it worked!  Hoot!

Whoops, just an update ... the way I made my cable, I spliced both ends of the usb cable into the Xbox break-away cable, thinking that I can get separate cables to access my memory card on the Xbox and use an Xbox controller for my pc, and still attach them back together to use for the controller (making for a longer cable) on the Xbox.  Up till now, I never bothered testing the cable for the controller (having 4).  Well, seems it doesn't work not having the yellow wire bridged through the USB connection.  This is what I did:

Cable 1
a) xbox connection <-----> b) usb female

a) connected to Xbox
b) USB female memory card reader

Cable 2
c) usb male <-----> d) xbox breakaway

c) USB male to PC
d) Xbox Controller

Attach Cable 1 & 2 together via USB for use for Xbox and controller

Anyone can confirm the need for the yellow wire to indicate to the Xbox the controller is attached?  I read that it was only to indicate what type of controller and wasn't needed, but it seems more than that in my case.
