No Action-replay / Mega X-key Tutorial

Finished my own cracka-ass cable today:

Heh, inside I just twisted the cables together and wrapped em with a bit of electrical tape, and because I left the ground wires too short, I wrapped it with a buncha aluminum foil too, heh, it worked  biggrin.gif ...

Only problem is my Windows 98 box crashed when I tried to install XCtrl, but thats my own fault (I fucked the install). But I can say the MadCatz memory card works awesomely with this, I've had more problems with the card included with Action Replay than my MadCatz card. God damn the USB cable was expensive, though, 25 bucks...connecting 20 Guage wire to the Xbox's 12 Guage was a pain in the ass too. It was worth it though, this is the first force-feedback anything I've got to work on this PC!

Hey Vintage, just want to thank you for the awesome tutorial and advice.  Same goes to the others here who have made suggestions (like how to 3rd party mem cards with this method by using the usbio dev kit).  I had been having major trouble with the actual Action Replay method (error 21 every damn time regardless of what save was used) but with this method I booted up evox the very first time.  Plus now I have a great controller for my PC.  Anyway, thank you very much  beerchug.gif

Oh, for those having trouble, there is a similar tutorial here that explains things well too (it also helped):
http://www.xbox-emul...oller-Mod.shtml

Anyone having trouble with an actual Action Replay should try this method instead...10x better.

np..glad it helped you. however. when there is a definate fix for 3rd party memory cards i will add it in too my tutorial..as adding extra lines of code too the action replay ini doesn't quite fix ALL problems as of yet, if i had a 3rd party memory card i could test/play with one, but i don't so..eh..

I'd just like to mention that if anyone is having stability problems with xctrl, use the psxpad drivers (google it) they are by far more stable for me.

As for a few posts above, I would insulate each of those connections with some electrical tape, and the ground is that tin-foil like stuff that surrounds the wires on each end, basically take a short piece of wire, and solder it to each end of it.

If anyone wants to see how I did mine, I oppened the end case on the breakaway cable, then unsoldered the factory end, and put my usb in. I put the factory case back on, and hot glued the usb male into place. It looks almost stock.

I have a problem. When I plug in the Interact Card, the ActionReplay thing lights up, then it goes out. I don't get it. I think I added the file info correctly. I think Windows XP said it installed it correctly too. I don't get it. Any ideas?

Nevermind. I think I plugged it into the Xbox, and I think it said it had an error. I also think it said it erased it. Now I think it's working! smile.gif

I have a question. If you touch the wires while they're plugged into the USB port, could you get seriously hurt from the shock? Is it a strong enough shock to hurt you, or is it just a small shock?

alright i got some stupid questions because i don't want to make any mistakes maybe u can help vintage since your the xbox pimp.

1. do u zip the whole 007with evox folder and save onto the mem card??

2.can u access a games xbox live feature from the games menu instead of from the dashboard?

3.can u use normal paint to paint a xbox or does it have to be a special kind?

4. and one other question if my dashboard says xbox live on it already does that mean if i sign up ill get a year free or do i need to get the starter kit still.

if anyone can answer these questions id appreciate it

Whatever i do i cannot get the driver for the controller to work.

i spliced the wires with a usb plugged it into a port it said new hardware detected.

i went to add new hardware go to autodetect and unknown device comes up

i click driver update

driver specify the location of the driver (advanced)

check specify a location and browse for the folder where i put xcrtl

and press next the only thing that comes up is C:WINDOWSINFUSB.INF

that isnt the driver i need i want xcrtl

i'm probably missing some studip step but can someone please help!!!

you should just save or copy the inf file or whatever to your desktop and  type in the complete path name including file name and then u should be aight. but ull probably need to take the controller out and put it back in before choosing the path again.
