What makes you think this thread is "long ignored"? If you mean that there's no idle and pointless chatter then you are right, but there are no outstanding questions, hence no recent activity.

Use Xplorer360 beta 6 instead of AR.

Use the Krayzie 1.1.1 gamesave installer. Copy the two numbered folders (21585554 and 5553000c) to the root of the memory card using Xplorer360 beta 6, then copy them to your Xbox using the Xbox dash. Start the game, load the linux gamesave. Once you've backed up the eeprom and copied it to the memory card or used FTP to copy it to your PC (or both), select Basic Install - UnleashX dashboard.

QUOTE(jaybeebrad @ Dec 30 2010, 06:26 AM) View Post

Ok, well now I'm freaking out. After I copied the file in question over I realized I also had a hack game save for Splinter Cell labeled as "NTSC", so I put that one on the flash drive and copied it onto the XBOX. And now my XBOX won't play any game. I've put in two (Splinter Cell and Mechwarrior) and both are giving me an error "Your Xbox can't recognize this disc. Make sure it's an Xbox gamne, DVD movie or audio CD. Also check to see if the disc is dirty or damaged. Remove the disc to continue."

What happened? How do I fix this?!?

Just tried a music CD, same thing!!!

I can't believe this is happening. I came here for help and now something has gone horribly wrong, and I'm sitting here like an idiot crying over a non working xbox and you logged off. It's like, I know you don't owe me anything, but I don't know where to turn or what to do! This is horrible...

*edit - really, I'm just so distressed that someone would log on, give a quick tip without any real explanation, and then disappear. I've been working on trying to mod this thing for a week, and you come along and tell me to do something new, and I do it, and now my entire system appears to be completely broken. I just feel so defeated. It's 6AM, I have to make an attempt to forget this is happening and go to bed. I know I'm being a drama queen, but this is the worst feeling EVER.

You have three problems:

1. Your DVD drive is flaky. It has nothing to do with the softmod you've tried - mods don't affect the ability of the DVD drive to read genuine Xbox discs. Try cleaning the lens. If that doesn't work, you can temporarily swap one from another Xbox.
2. You need to get rid of all Splinter Cell gamesaves from the Xbox, and start again with the Krayzie gamesaves, not the old SID 2 saves you've been trying to use. Copy the numbered folders to the root of the memory card (see previous post). When you plug the memory card into the Xbox there will be two saves - one called Splinter Cell (7 blocks) and one called Linux Installer (375 blocks), and you have to copy both to your hard drive.
3. You need to relax, and maybe get someone to help you. It doesn't take a week to mod an Xbox with a gamesave, it takes 10 minutes, and maybe someone else there to make sure you aren't misunderstanding the instructions might be a good idea, and might stop you from becoming so emotionally involved.

Just for completeness, you should check your dashboard version before you start to softmod, and if it isn't 5960 then there's an extra step  - you need to update the dash before you start. Any post 2004 live-enabled game after Halo 2 will work (Halo 2 and Doom 3 definitely work because I've used them both, and Pro Evolution Soccer 4, Need For Speed Most Wanted, and Goldeneye Rogue Agent should also work). Just load the game and start to log in to live. You don't need a network connection, you just go through the motions of starting to log in to live, and the first thing the game does is update the dashboard to the latest version. Once the update is done you can quit the game, then start Splinter Cell and do the softmod.

UPDATED 6/20/04

This method will allow you to use a regular memory unit as an action replay (get and put saves from the internet to the xbox) without buying a mega-x key or action replay but rather, a standard xbox memory unit (xbox brand, but read on later in this thread if you want too try some other brand..there are ways too do this..but i have not tried them so of course..i will not include them in my tutorial) and a standard xbox controller. Also, it will let you use your controller on your computer like a usable gamepad..on most emulators and games with controller support, and also, just by making a few modifications, you can use a keyboard and mouse on your xbox.

You'll need,
1.Xbox memory unit(THIS TUTORIAL NO LONGER SUPPORTS A NON MS BRAND MEMORY CARD, DUE TO TOO MANY CONFLICTS IN SAVE CORRUPTION..ETC.)

2.Access from your xbox controller to your PC (xbox controller to usb cable, or homebrew cutting the cord and connecting the wires technique, EXPLAINED LATER IN THIS THREAD!!!!)

Here are the steps.

1. Get the action replay software LINK 1 is 1.20(Seen problems, reccomended use of 1.05), LINK 2 is 1.05.
1.http://us.codejunkies.com/downloads/Action...box_1_20_US.exe
2.http://us.codejunkies.com/downloads/Action...nglish1_05).exe

2. Download the HID drivers.(XCtrl is now illegal and will NOT be used in this tutorial)
http://image.lik-sang.com/content/xid/xid.zip

3. Plug the controller into the PC.(Make sure the memory card is NOT plugged in!!) It will say found new hardware. and direct it to where you installed the HID drivers on your computer. Reboot

4.Plug the memory unit into the controller. It will say found new hardware. Direct it to where you installed the action replay software in the Driver folder. (or if you didnt change it, C:/Program Files/Datel/Action Replay Xbox/Driver
Reboot

5. Double-click on ActionReplayXbox.exe in the action replay folder, and voila, you now own an action replay, cool eh, but you didnt waste like 40 bucks.

--Homebrew Xbox Controller To PC Method--
PICS AT BOTTOM
You'll need
1.a usb cord(or cut an old mouse or something and salvage the cord from it,BUT MAKE SURE ITS USB!!)

2.An xbox controller, duh

Here's the steps

1.Find a good place at the end of the xbox cord(i did it by where it plugs into the second part of the controller cord) carefully, strip all the wires (about a dimes length)

2.Cut the usb cord and strip all the wires(about a dimes length)

3.Match up wires and twist them together or solder them. except the yellow wire on the xbox controller cord. which you don't need, just snip it off

4.Either tape them together which electrical tape them, or you can tidy it up a little bit and solder them. it still works out fine either way.

Will 3rd party memory cards by companies such as Mad Catz, Interact, and so on work just as well as an official MS card?

haven't tested but i don't see why they wouldn't.. they must have the same MS signed hardware in order to run on unmodded xboxs with no exploits

Alternative method:

Mad Catz Memory Card Usb Mod

This will work on any memory card I just used a Mad Catz Because it was cheap.
(I found one at Game Stop for $8.99 used)

vintage_guitar, what do you mean by 'signed hardware? i assumed that any usb memory stick would be compatible with the xbox as long as the adaptor cable was used.
another question: why would you need the AR software? can't you simply copy+paste the 007/MA zip to the memory stick?
thanks for any replies.  smile.gif

you need the software in order to have access to whats on it or put stuff on it..unless you build your own, it isn't accessible like a hard drive..you can only access the contents through some kind of program
