Save Game Exploits

Sorry for such a noob question but I have recently been looking into the 007 or Mechassault save game exploit and have only found basic tutorials on it.  Would anyone know were there might be documentation or something alittle more advanced in the matter.  

Like how it actually works or detailed information on what / how to get programs to run?
I would like to play with it ... I already have a mod'd xbox and am really just wanting to learn.

Also ... is efnet down? Or did the xbins channel move to another irc host?
Its been a long time since I have been to that channel
