Xbox( 1.0 Enigmah Wont Boot After New Dashboard
« on: March 23, 2004, 12:39:00 AM »

Hi there,

first I want to tell that I have looked around on the site and forum, but cant find any info for this problem.

I got a version 1.0 xbox with thomson drive and enigmah chipset, its an oldy.

I had evolution x installed for 1,5 years or something and I dont got the cd anymore. and someone else installed it for me.
now my codecs were a bit outdated and someone told me avalaunch was a good choice. they told me I had to rename the xbox.default or whatever the file is called  to  .old    and then extract the avalaunch dir to the c root.

after doing that it wont boot anymore, it stands still on the xbox logo.
I tried slayers autoinstaller and it didnt boot from it, while it did on my friends xbox who got same xbox version and modchip as me.

now is there a way to get it started again ?  do I need something else as the slayersdisc ? and is it possible to get the harddisk out  and put all the files on it from my friends xbox or change some things like renaming the  .old file to default again?

this is really 1 of my last hopes, I hope anyone can help me I do got some xbox iso's in return on a 100 mbit server.

There is no reason that it won't boot the slayers disk..Make sure that the Slayers disk is burn't on good quality DVDR not Cdr..

For you Xbox with a old enigma chip..you need to rename the following files in the C partition so it will boot Evox..Rename the file xboxdash.xbe to msxboxdash.xbe and rename evoxdash.xbe to xboxdash.xbe..and it will be fine..

Just wanted to add that if you already have an msxboxdash.xbe on there, leave that alone.  If that is the case, just rename the xboxdash.xbe to evoxdash.xbe first.  The Enigmah won't know to boot it, but at least you'll know what the XBE is, should you need it again.  Then copy the Avalaunch XBE onto C:\ and rename it to xboxdash.xbe.  Make sure all the rest of the Avalaunch files are included as well.  There need to be an avalaunch.xml file and a few subfolders.

Well the slayersdisc does work on my friends xbox and that is the same xbox as I got. same version dvd drive and modchip.

and it did boot at his xbox and we tried it like 10 times.  maybe if I put it on dvd that im sure of that my xbox will take it that it will work better ?

but if I remember correctly with the old evox etc you had to put in a dummy file or something like that and I didnt had that.   is there also a way to put the original xbox dashboard on it on a bootable cd or something ?
