Post 'em here.

I'm sure there are a few. Let the people know this isn't a way around the ban.

I don't think M$ will do anything to your xbox if you have a couple emulators on it or things like that. Their main concern is piracy, and probably the rescent issue about backups being played online (which we all hope never happens). The emulators don't hurt M$ in any way, but losing customers because of cheating does. Doing HDD checks wouldn't be much of a hault for anything either. If someone were to play pirated games off their HDD, then they would likely get a hard-drive that could hold more space. The current hard-drive is quite small to be putting anything on it. If someone were to do get a larger drive, then this would mean they'd have another one for use with xbox live. Remember that now, you don't even need a modchip to install a bigger drive.

Ok, I'm going to stop posting on this thread for now because this really isn't the right place to talk about it.

MS will not hesitate to ban you if your Xbox isn't in the EXACT same state as a virgin Xbox except for game saves and soundtracks....which is very very lame.

Since when does MS look at the contents of the HDD?  Since never.

Just buy your live games people.

QUOTE (blahf1r3 @ Jul 6 2003, 08:44 PM)

so if your running mechassault exploit and it works....dont go online and take the update.  and if you only have mechassault and not 007 DO NOT UPDATE YOUR LIVE DASHBOARD ONLINE.  they have a fix out for it....and this also explains why a lot of people couldn;t get the mechassault to work.

blah

Did you download any of the online content for MechAssault?  Most likely.

Try deleting the stuff you downloaded with the MS Dash memory manager (everything except the Run Linux save).  This will get it looking like a virgin copy again.

AFAIK, MS has done nothing to affect the MechAssault hack.

nope i didn't download anything extra.......as i was logging in i got a system msg that i needed to take a MS LIVE update to connect.  this happened with all 4 boxes i tried it on......the last time these boxes went online was a month after live started...
the lag and the control scheme for unreal all sucked so we quit playing....

i went and cleaned my drive of all saves, leaving only the xbox live account in the dashboard.....reloaded the mechassault save and still no go...it just freezes on the MA select screen.     it was working before this, and the next  question i get is if i erased something i shouldn't have etc.... on the drive.   but i know i didn't, i've gone back into the drive via FTP with the 007 hack(which still works) and triple checked that the drive is at a it's clean starting point.    the only thing i haven't tried yet is loading the backup of the drive i made wheni first got MA exploit working......i guess that will be the definitive test(in my mind at least) that the new live dashboard is patched for MA.

guess i shouldn't of really posted a  "DO NOT DO THIS" before i loaded my old dashboard back on to confirm....but 4 xbox's all working with MA then not after update...seems pretty good start toward the possibility of a fix in the stream.

i'll update later once i load the old dashboard back on........

ok
so i used the 007 exploit to get ftp back
went in and looked thru the drive
2 directories and 1 file had updated dates and times from when i got the online update.

so i went back in and restored these 2 directories   xodash , xodash data 1012a700 and this file xboxdash.xbe
from my backup of the HD.

loaded up the save game on my AR, put it on the HD, loaded up MA went to the campaing RUN LINUX worked fine..glitched out to the eVox screen.  - replacing those 2 dirs and the dash file fixed it.

so i rebooted, didn't access the drive or ftp, just glitched out and rebooted.
got the MS dashboard, so all is good.(took the game disk out obviously)...went in and deleted the MA save file.

loaded up MA again, went to multiplayer, play live, got the msg "there is an update for xbox live, you must take the update to connect..blah blah blha"   so i took the update...for the second time now.

rebooted the xbox to MS dashboard...just to make sure all is good.....loaded up the MA save to the HD(run linux)
loaded up MA went to campaign load , RUN LINUX......and it froze.

so i repeated the first few steps....007/ftp/replace directories and file/rebooted
back into MA ....campaign...load...RUN LINUX
worked fine.

so i'm concluding and you can do your own tests and make your own conclusions....that MS has PATCHED something to stop the MA exploit.....at least for a 3944 bios which is what i have.

so now i will lay warning out to people NOT to take the update in the stream, and find an alternative way to update the dashboard, if you need to.......i saw something in another post about loging into your xbox with xftp and running the update off of a retail Unreal Championship disk.....so perhaps that is the way to go.

also just to clarify...the 007AUF hack still works....so the warning here is for people that only own MA and don't have access to 007AUF for whatever reason.....i just went and bought a used copy today at gamestop for $14 so i wouldn't have to worry about MA anymore.

soooo  GOOD LUCK TO ALL

I bought a new copy of 007 at walmart for 16, I have heard of mechassult hack not working if you downloaded updates, but its just the hack all you have to do is delete the added content someone said and he got it fixed, well anyways ms hasnt stopped you just made a few more steps, annoying if you use this as a loader I understand...
