I was talking with a friend and he seems to think this is not going to ruin the xbox.  Does anyone have any opinions on this.  I think the xbox should have been able have linux  or an alternate OS like sony did when it was released....  I guess Sega even had a Developers Kit for Dreamcast and users could use it. Will we really see xbox webservers in companies?  biggrin.gif   Is a software hack with no modchip still against the DMCA?.... and I am sure the answer is yes... Still this is very cool... What should scare every large business the most is that how easy these game consoles are getting hacked buy the Xbox Pro's and yet M$ is telling everyone with their lastest Server OS Windows 2003 Server that is blah blah so much more secure etc than the previous ones.... yet the 1.3 xbox was hacked in a few days.   The Xbox is a great product I will thank M$ for not making it secure  laugh.gif   I like what the Lindows CEO is doing but will he be able to market a product for the xbox such as linux like a keyboard, mouse package etc....   This is not a flame or anything just some thoughts

This changes nothing

it's a pain in the arse to load   game all the time and limited HD space not good Mod chip anyday. 007 hack is nice but ultimately only a few people will ever use it regulary (Many will try it of course but most will graduate to a modchip or give up.) the best thing for me is the ability to reflash the tsop without a modchip.

well, you can put in a bigger harddrive with the 007 hack, as long as its locked.  I just wonder if the F drive would be accessable with out a new bios.

and really.. what company would run a webserver on a computer with 64mb of ram?

You can use the F partition and yes, any locked HDD under 136GB.

It's a bit beyond newbies though having to use hddprepare so I doubt many people will upgrade the HD. Fo most of us modders it wouldn't be a prob but all us modders have or will buy (Maybe even just reflash the tsop) a modchip.

I'm pretty sure you have to do it the same way as always, nothing's changed. If you need the drive locked BEFORE it's in the Xbox as you do wth !loader you'll need to hook it up to your pc and use hddprepare.

People are ignorant who think that new exploits will not be modified to become easier and easier to use.

What's so hard about using FTP to install EvoX dash, and then putting a brand new HDD into the Xbox and formatting it with that? You may have to lock the drive outside of the Xbox, but possibly not with 1.0 Xbox's and tools like EEPromer and Config Magic.

Referring to the new FREE-X hack:

Hard drive swaps are still far from being easy.

ConfigMagic (and possibly eeprommer too, but I haven't used that) locks the hard drive specific to the machine. Anybody who would want to swap HDs would have to use a PC to lock the drive with their own unique code.

In addition, they would have to prepare the HD beforehand with the xbox dashboard and the hacked files so that the machine could load up unsigned code (I believe you won't be able to format/lock a new drive with evolution-x and configmagic with this hack, you would have to do that on a PC).

Somebody prove me wrong? I haven't really tried it myself, but from my experience, I don't think you can do it without a PC.
