« on: January 19, 2004, 07:34:00 PM »

Thought I'd just ad that I cloned a Western Digital 120gb to a Seagate 120gb and it's working fine.

Has any1 tried to clone different sized drives? if so what happens?

Hi all,

I have 4 boxes to do HDD upgrades, and I have 80meg of "backed up" games.
i thought i might try this method of using Nortons 2002 Ghost to copy RAW data from my 80 gig ( Master) to the new 80 gig (slave) and it worked! it copied every thing and made all the drives BUT IT DID NOT copy any of the game files across. However on booting it their are no games avaliable to launch, but P* Loader shows that thier is only 1 gig free of space ( same as what is left on my 80gig drive!!!!, I FTPed in and game folder is empty!!

Are these files hidden somehow, has anyone else done this!!

Cheers

did you start ghost with the /ir switch?

I was playing around with ghost earlier, but was only cloning original drives.

Yes I used the  -ir switch.  It appears to have copied across that all 80 gig of data, but cant see the game folders or games

maybe a bug there in ghost... i know -ir shouldn't be looking at folders or anything but pxhddloader puts games in weird folders right? maybe use dvd2xbox to get games on there in a better folder structure and try the ghost again...  that's my only thought.

i have cloned many hard drives with ghost.  the hard drives have to be the exact same size.  keep in mind different manufacturers use different actual sizes for their 80 gb hard drives.  i have not been able to get it to work with different sized drives. also make sure when ghost starts up you quit the program, then in the command prompt type "ghost /ir" the run it

maybe try booting slayers2.5 on them and formatting the drives then putting yours games on it

just do it to one of the bigger hdd then use that as your image for all the others

in the middle of cloning 2 WD 120gb HDD's

had the original as Primary Master, and the blank as Secondary Slave, 1 drive would get to about 20% and come up with a weird error, something about not being able to copy certain sectors.

2nd drive copied fine.

I put the failed drive into an xbox, and it reported it was 1/2 full which was true for the original drive, but not all the games showed, up, as far as i could tell all the games worked except for 1. So it took up space for the data that didnt copy.

I tried like 3 times to get the drive to clone, Then i swapped the drives around, drive to be cloned as the primary master, and the original as the Secondary Slave.

It's at 60% now, so It looks like It's going to copy all the way.

I used FTP and DVD2 Xbox to load all my games on the original HD.

All the games are working fine now.

so for future reference, if any1 has trouble copying certain sectors, try change jumpers/cable positions and pray that works!

and i guess we'll try to avoid using PX HDloader
