Well, a modchip is a whole lot more flexible than a softmod. If you have a softmod (ahem, virus..) you cannot mess with anything in the C drive, doing so will result in a error 13 that will eventually turn into a error 16. At this point your xbox is screwed (error 13 has a chance of recovery, but if it's 16 then you ARE screwed). If you accidentally UNLOCK the HDD then your screwed, resulting in an error 06.

Now, on the other hand. If you have a chip recovery is as simple as popping in a copy of the Ultimate Boot Disk. You also can use a LOCKED or UNLOCKED HDD. HDD upgrades are simple too. wink.gif

In conclusion, most people f*ck up their softmodded xbox and have to buy a modchip to fix it. So why waste time softmodding when eventually it will need to be chipped?

No, LOL.

I think you misunderstood me, a softmod IS a buffer overflow virus. That is what enables you to run unsigned M$ code, which is what you want.

I beg to differ. It may not be possible to screw up your xbox while using a auto-installer. But, after the softmod is installed (even if you used a auto-installer) you can very easily screw it up. And if you dont believe me, then let me use your xbox for 10 seconds.

this is the question
1) Do you want to fight that $50+ mod chip for a little bit more options
or
2)Pay for nothing, and then have the added benefit of being an idiot and screwing ur xbox up

(did i leave any out  huh.gif )

1) $50+? WTF are you buying?  A DuoX2 and Sunday chip can be bought for UNDER $20.

and

2) A softmod is not free...
    $20 for a M$ memory card
$3-5 for the game rental (or $20 to buy)
Countless hours tinkering around getting it to work for the first time, at minimum wage would cost at least $50.

SO...
Modchip = $20
Softmod = $25-40 + time (about $50 worth of time, and all that to just have to buy the chip to fix your f*ck up when it happens)

Key words

...getting it to work for the first time

I'm sure it did not take you 5 mins to download USBView (if you used a CF card), download Action Replay, download the Sofmod Installer, modify the .ini for AR (if you used a CF card), then copy the hack to your HDD & run the game to install the softmod. Most of the time it doesn't work on your first try and you need to download something else or try something different. After you successfully did it once then it can be done in about 5 min.

BTW- the brand new soldering iron I bought at Wal-Mart was only 9.99 for a kit that contained everything I needed.

As for mynuffinfutsitch, I am not gonna read your ill-thought, idiotic posts anymore, reading SHIT that you typed really is a waste of my time. dry.gif

I think anyone who doesn't do enough research into modding the xbox will fuck up their console no matter what mod they use.

man you need to shut the fuck up

anyone can do a softmod thats why they use it, also its cheaper too (most ppl have everything they need for a softmod) ; the only advantage of a hardmod is that it can do a few more things than a softmod; also if u search this topic has been discussed about 3 dozen times

oh and if im a waste of time go to fucking bed you little bitch...

If you want to make something of it im in Springfield Missouri. Come to my fucking house and we'll see what happens grr.gif
