No not always the case but more and more pc's nowadays come with a built in LAN adapter integrated on the mainboard itself. Look at the back of the pc and check for the
RJ45 plug...looks like an oversized phone plug. It should be right above the AGP/PCI expansion slots if you have it.

All right, I checked the hardware tab and then devices. I don't have anything that resembles a network adapter or the card in there. It is physically installed, I have my crossover cable plugged into it as of now.

What I need to know is how I recognize it and update or install the drive?

I went to 'add hardware' and then network adapters. I shows I have three?

1)BlueTooth Device RFComm Protocol TDI
2)MS Loopback adapter
3)MS Turn minipoint adapter

So, just out of the blue I went with Loopback Adapter not knowing what it really does? Anyways, it created a lan/high-speed connection. It also shows in device manager the network adapter and the Loophole adapter!?

The Loopback Adaptor is not what you want, are there any "unknown" devices in device manager?

Fester, If your LAN adapter is on-board, meaning built onto the
motherboard, it will need to be enabled in your BIOS before the OS will
detect it and install the drivers for it. So if thats the case, boot into
the BIOS and enable it.

All right, thanks for the advice. I took a look inside and it's connected to my Asus motherboard(K8V Deluxe). It definitely doesn't look like your typcial card, I think it said something about 'starconn' on it? I had a look in my manual and it shows a diagram with the port titled - (RJ-45 Port) Something about a Gigabit Lan Controller as well in my booklet? If this is going to be a pain, I can't see NIC's being expensive!? I have five 32-bit PCI 2.2 slots for lan cards with 133MB/s maximum. It might be less stressful if I just purchased a card?

I do have my CD for the motherboard. I think someone said I had to enable the device first in my BIOS? I did notice when I started the computer it said, 'BIOS not installed' not really sure what that's all about.

If you have the on-board version theres no sense in buying a PCI
version unless the OB is broken. So try this:

When your pc first boots up, start tapping F1, F2, and delete at the
same time. One of those should get you into the BIOS setup. Look for
"on-board LAN controller", " 10/100/1000 ethernet adapter", or
something to that effect. This needs to be enabled. If not XP will not
be able to "see" it and install drivers for it. Be careful not to change
ANYTHING else in BIOS unless you know what your doing. And once
you enable it make sure you save the changes before you exit out.

You should still be able to use it, just wait the 30 seconds for the nag screen to go away.

No luck. It say's your 30 day evaluation period is expired. FXP is disabled. You must purchase to continue.

That's weird, mine just has the nag screen that sits for 30 seconds before you can click continue.  Mine is version 2.1 (build 924) compiled on May 17 2003 if that helps.

All right, thanks for the info. The one I have is the 3.1 - Build 1067 (Beta Release)

I'll see if I can locate another version, but most link's take me to the FlashFXP website.

All right,  I just had to download version 2.1 build 924. It displays the 30 day trial, but will actually give me 30 days unlike the 3.1 beta version. It took me awhile to find it. Everything I do with this little project seems to take a lot of time.

I configured Flash Fxp and connected. It then showed seven folders. I assume it's actually connected to my Xbox!?

So, the guide I was looking around on  mentioned that my D drive is the one with the DVD game(Back-up Game). I opened up the folder,  it didn't seem like it was the right one. I transferred it anyways to a folder in my local drive. It ended up being like 4.34 Gigs.

Any suggestions for me, like a possible next step in transferring files etc. Or a suitable guide

Thanks
Phill

I use quix and Avalaunch, quix will create an ISO from the DVD or Backed up game on the HDD. You then burn it to a DVD using Nero or something similar
