Like many of u I also have problems with the new phillips drive. I live in holland and the new drive always comes with a crystal xbox.
I modded about 5 crystals and 3 of them gave me problems reading certain games that plays fine on other drives.
So this is what I did to solve it for now, I took one of the new drives that plays most of the games fine, and measured the resistance. LP=702 RP=1064
I tried to give another drive the same measurements, LP was a bitch, because when i tried to set it to 702 each little tweak it went from 750 to 650. The closest i could get was about 658. I forgot to note down the original settings but new settings are: LP=658 RP=1062
With these settings it reads more media, just like the other drive I didnt have to tweak.
This week I will get the 2 other drives that need adjusting and I'm planning to tweak them same like stated above. More info I will post. |
Hiya!
I also have a newer type Philips drive (VAD6035/21) and just performed a successful modding of it. Earlier it did not play CD-R:s but did play at least CD-RW and DVD-R. However, I wanted to be able to play CD-R audio cd:s, so I decided to go for the pot tweak mod.
I measured the values of the pots with a multimeter before modding:
left pot - 720
right pot - 960
Then I turned the left pot just a tiny little bit to the right (not the word tiny, because the pot is really sensitive - just turn it a mere degree or so). After measuring the resistance again I decided I might have turned it too much and turned it back slightly. The resistance of the left pod was then 675 ohms, which i thought might be about right according to a post in this thread, whose writer had had approximately the same starting values as I did.
My Philips-drive now reads also CD-R:s as well as all the other disks it read before. I haven't had the chance to do a more thorough check on different medias, but at least it now does what I wanted it to do in the first place.
Concludingly I'd say you should go for this mod if you need your philips-drive to read more disk-types, but remember to be careful to turn the left pot just slightly and measure the change of the resistance before testing the drive. As people in this thread have said, you might destroy your lasers by turning the pod too much.
