New Philips Drive?

QUOTE (RMF @ Apr 25 2004, 09:55 AM)
I've just pickd up a crystal xbox with the new philips drive in, but before i mod it i'd like to know if it will play my old backups without having to open it incase i have to return it, so i was wondering if any of the guys here who've had problems playing games from DVD-R's or +R's can play dvd movies on + or - media? Or is the problem solely with playing games from + or - R's?

The reason i ask is that i tested some burnt dvd movies on both types of media and they all played perfectly, and cd-r's worked fine aswell.  ohmy.gif

TIA to whoever answers.

Wow that's is the exaclty thing i would know too.

My Crystal xbox with Phillips isn't modded yet but i already tested some Copied Movies dvd's. There where 2 Princo DVD's (white) 4X . The 1st dvd i tested didn't work the second does work  sad.gif .. But is was de same Princo DVD-R (white). The good thing is that alls cd'rs works fine on my xbox.

Well I wanted to know if DVD-R could be a trouble when motted, Because i have 300 divx movies on DVD-R from Princo and Arita. So does it matters on what kinda dvd I burn (Dvd -R/+R DVD-rw/+rw) for the games/Movies????

PS: My 1st Xbox with Thompson Drive readed both Princo's... Kinda weard  blink.gif

Princo DVD-R Burned @ 4X
TDK DVD-R Burned @4X
Melody DVD-RW Burned @4X

Now the IRONIC THING IS.
MY FUCKING DRIVE. It crashes sometimes when reading project Gotham racing 2 ORIGINAL. I HAVE NO IDEA why but it crashes. Like wtf man. Growl. I don't know what else to say:S

I recieved the Phillips drive w/ Halo SE, VAD6035/21, 01-04. I have tested Ritek 4X DVD-R burned at 4X- it works. I have tested Imation CD-R burned at 40X and XBMC reads avi's perfectly. Are the LE's and SE's being tuned differently from the factory? Anyone else having good luck w/ SE and LE's stock phillips settings?

Yes, there is the possibility!If you look at the tutorials, in this site, you can find a way to identify what kind of drive do you have in your XBox by the tray form of your Xbox drive!

DVD... above... DVD... thing?

You're going to have to be more specific; if you're just closing your jamming discs in the drive as it shuts, just be more careful! wink.gif

Like many of u I also have problems with the new phillips drive.
I live in holland and the new drive always comes with a crystal xbox.

I modded about 5 crystals and 3 of them gave me problems reading certain games that plays fine on other drives.

So this is what I did to solve it for now, I took one of the new drives that plays most of the games fine, and measured the resistance.
LP=702
RP=1064

I tried to give another drive the same measurements, LP was a bitch, because when i tried to set it to 702 each little tweak it went from 750 to 650. The closest i could get was about 658.
I forgot to note down the original settings but new settings are:
LP=658
RP=1062

With these settings it reads more media, just like the other drive I didnt have to tweak.

This week I will get the 2 other drives that need adjusting and I'm planning to tweak them same like stated above. More info I will post.

also does the samsung's have any more advantages over the others for example reading speed or are they just the most compatabe drives. because i also have a v1.0 xbox with the thompson drive and i have not found a dvd-r or dvd-rw media that will NOT work in it
