616t Does It Improve Ftp Speed?
« Reply #15 on: December 15, 2003, 04:32:00 PM »

I emailed a firmware modifier tonight about this and I'm just waiting for his reply.

Since he mainly does firmware mods for RPC-1 (region free), I'm not sure he's gonna do this, but it can't hurt to ask. In any case, he'd probably be the best person to do ask because of his experience. I asked if it was possible to be able to modify the max read speed for dvd & cd, and also to change the code for the eject so you don't have to swap the motor around... although, since pretty much every drive you'll find out there will have the motor swapped already, that's kind of pointless, but I asked anyways.

I'll keep you posted.

No if you don't change the motor direction, the tray won't open, because the motor will try pulling it in, but it's already closed, so nothing happens. I think if you were in the firmware modding it, you could just make it try to close it whenever you opened it, and open it whenever you close it, but realistically, everyone who's got one of these things already has the motor flipped around, and I bet none of them want to take it out and flip it back around... besides there aren't many of these drives left, so there's no point. It only takes about 5 mins to flip the motor anyways. it's super easy.
