On the old programmer you didnt need the cable as you could simply unscrew the nuts that held the connector on the programmer and then plug it straight into the printer port of your pc.

This isn't exactly a buyer's market, you know.  Avoiding errors (which, really is no big deal, as to err is human) and double checking ANYTHING is the mantra (re: motto) of this hobby.

3) Caveat emptor, man.  Is should have been clear from the specs and screenshots on the site you bought it from that there was no 25pin m/f extention cable included.

Caveat emptor means "buyer beware"

i dont use the printer cable. I just plug the programmer into the back of my PC in the parallel port. Put the chip on it with the dip switches attached and bingo its flashed. I have never used the "printer" parrallel cable to flash with the programmer.

Also how do you figure its cheaper to buy a new chip when the programmer costs 17 bucks and a parallel cable costs 4 dollars at compusa.

Your math needs work i think because that comes to 21 dollars to me and a new chip (2.6 as you mentioned above) would cost 35 bucks.

Thier are several tutorials on how to flash without the cable.

This is the printer (parallel) port.Remove the 2 screws so your programmer can sit flush on the back of your PC.

This is the USB power plugged in!

And this is the programmer plugged into the printer port without  cable!

Now just attatch the chip with the switches attached. Congrats you have now used a programmer without a cable. And you no longer have to complain.
