Ive just got a new box as i broke my old one. anyway i have a Seagate 120g hhd loaded up and ready to go but i get error 16(dashboard error) when i try to load it up. Have got aladdin advance chip. my old box was V3,4,or 5 but new box is v1or2. also have tried to load old xbox 8g hdd that was full but got error 6(cannot unlock hdd). What do i need to do to get 120g hdd to work on new box? Hoping that i can keep drive fully loaded.

On a seperate note, do i need to have all the points of the chip soldered where chip fits on motherboard(dont have pins)? not L1, L2, BT and DO, but physical conection points.

I have a 80GB, 8 MB cache, 7200 rpm western digital drive
and i dont have any problems with locking or unlocking, im using configmagic.

edit

the drive model number is
WDC WD800JB-00FMA0

=> i locked it certainly 3 times and unlocked it 2 times with configmagic

so this one works for sure !

i found this
http://www.zipzoomfl...ductCode=101220

its Western Digital Caviar Special Edition WD2500JB 250GB Ultra ATA/100 7200RPM Hard Drive w/8MB Buffer  for $185.00 with free second day shipping

they also have Western Digital Caviar WD2500PB 250GB Ultra ATA/100 7200RPM Hard Drive w/8MB Buffer for $184.00 with free second day shipping.

According to the HD list at http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?p=list both of these will work.

My question is should I get one of them?

I read that this drive is sometimes lockable: THD-2000JB P

I was wondering how come sometimes it can be locked, but there is still the chance it cant.... ??

I've tried Seagate ST3200822A from Tigerdirect, firmware 3.01, 8MB, 7200 RPM, and it didn't lock using config magic final thru slayer's 2.5 install disc.

XBOX: v1.1
Bios: M7
Dash: Evox 3935

I guess for some it worked, like Legion87 and Stacker69's hd, but not mine.  Someone has speculated that it could be a new firmware 3.01 that was causing the problem, but who knows.

I just wonder if another bios, dash, or perhaps a locking hdd software could do the trick somehow.

sierra34 this is the wrong thread, but get configmagic and run it on the new HD
try locking it from there.
