you need to lock it to access xbox live or to enter msdash when the modchip is disabled.

Hi all, slight problem unlocking my original drive...

I have the unlock.exe method.

When I install my xbox hdd into my puter and boot, as soon as it starts to boot, it comes up on my monitor that "hard drive is locked" wants me to put a pw in before it even finishes booting with the startup disk.  The amount of room it allows me isn't enough room for the real unlock code.  It allows me 5 tries, then locks me out.  "reboot and repeat process."  There is no way for me to boot to the dos disk with my xbox hdd installed in my puter.  Any ideas how to get around that?

Thanx in advance

I have a Maxtor 300gig HDD installed and running. BUT when using configmagic, it says Hard Drive not lockable, or something like that. I can't run my original xboxdash.xbe, I can run everything else, but when I have my chip off, I get that warning screen, and the numbers 05, I know for a fact that it's the HDD not being locked that's causing this, i've tried using configmagic, and Slayers Evox auto install disc to try and lock it. When using slayers disc, it says it locked it, but it's not. Is there a way to lock this HDD??? Thank you for your replies!!

it seems that lots of 300gb disks won't look, take a look at my site in the signature.

I just ordered a Maxtor 6Y160P0 because I saw several people listed in the various hard drive lockability lists as having success locking this drive.  Unfortunatly the company I ordered from sent me a 6Y160P0042211 which one use reported as not lockable.  I'm not sure why a 6Y160P0 would be lockable but not a 6Y160P0042211.  I haven't tried locking the drive yet so I don't know if it'll work or not.  I'm just curious if anyone else has tried this drive and if so, what were your results?

Thanks

Yay!  It worked!  Maxtor 6Y160P0042211 Lockable!  I used the lock feature in Slayer's Auto Installer 2.5 Final.

have you actually tried locking it? it is rare that a drive won't lock. And usually if someone says it doesn't work, it will work fine for someone else.

Hi guys.  Is it possible to put a new hard drive in and lock it without a mod chip?  I'm thinking of doing a software exploit on my xbox, which doesn't need a mod chip, but will I still be able to swap out for a new hard drive?  Thanks.
