Copy 40 Gigs Hdd's Content To 120 Gigs
« on: October 03, 2002, 05:44:00 PM »

HI ALL,
Best forum; i've got a question...
i've 40 gigs hdd full of stuff.
i've a new 120 gigs hdd empty and zero-formatted.
i have to move all data from 40 to 120 gigs.
Copy all the data to my pc is a very long time operation, close to impossible.

How to move all data?
(i know the hdd have to are formatted in raw mode from ftp, so, if i clone 40gigs to 120gigs with and hex editor i think partitions appears incorrect... right? anyway i've to format it again?)
i repeat:
HOW TO MOVE ALL DATA WITHOUT WASTING HUGE TIME?
thanks all in advance

...sounds complicated, being too lazy to figure out a better way I'd just FTP it like you said! XBOX->computer->XBOX over night!

I believe the only way you can is sending from xbox -> pc -> xbox, you'll just have to bite the bullet...unless you can put 2 hard drives in a single xbox, which i dont think anyone has done yet;)

Hmm... that is actually a possibility!

If the Xbox will "register" both drives via the cable select then it might just work.

The DVD would have to be hooked to the yellow cable though, as if it is disconnected the Xbox doesn't seem to boot (at least on mine).

However the other drive should show up in the chain...

The new drive should be already formatted w/evolution X set up on C:, etc.

This would be used only to move the F: contents from one box to another... IF the xbox displays the partitions.

why cant you just put both drives in the computer and create a mirror image of the 40gb onto the 120gb, all the while going at least 33mb/sec. = <30min. ?

Kinda obvious between those that have read up on the Xbox, and those that have not.

Basically you can't at the moment put Xbox drives on a PC IDE chain and access them in any way. They are only accessable via an FTP link from the PC to the Xbox.

Maybe they will create an Evox with an Xbox to Xbox FTP session through a utility like Boxplorer where you could copy direct from one to another.

Go ahead and give the dual HDD in the Xbox with the DVD off the IDE chain a go. That does seem plausable and might work.

Yeah I might just try it to see.

Good idea if it works!

Actually you could have done a xbox 2 xbox transfer...

using the RD tools with evox
or using the XDK and integrating the 2 xboxes into explorer.

but since you already did what you wanted,
never mind.
