No I'm not trying to confuse you, But wouldn't putting a hdd in with the NO DVD ROM check bios allow you to have a hdd in D:
So basically when you open D: that will view the files on that drive...
Try setting hdd as slave install it with the NO DVD ROM bios..I think you should have a D: drive with what ever size the hdd is...ie D: used to be your DVD ROM...

/me shakes his head

No, this will not work, dont even bother trying.  Xecuter has said they are looking into it, and Paul B has said that he might as well.  There is no telling if they will get it to work.
Just wait and see.  wink.gif

heinrich is correct, of course.

There's a big difference between running a DVD drive and running a HD at the low level. While it might be possible in the future, it won't happen without a LOT of work. The drive will NOT show up as "D:" either. This isn't windows. All drives have to be mapped by the apps, except for a few specific mapping the BIOS does when running an executable. Even then, there needs to be specific code to handle a Slave IDE HD, which simply isn't there right now.

Why worry about it anyway? Just plunk in a 300+GB HD. If you owned every game made for the Xbox, you **MIGHT** be able to fill it.

Ergh, guys i was reading on the xbox linux site.

If you want to replace the Xbox hard disk with a bigger one, do it now. It must be configured as "Master". You can also replace the DVD drive with another optical drive; it must be "Slave". (After the installation, you can replace the DVD drive with a second hard disk as well). Please be careful, you might have trouble with hard disks > 137 GB; we strongly recommend smaller hard disks.

Why don't they release the hack to team xecutor please.

What I mean by this is why haven't team xecutor or other bios devlopers got around to doing this? I mean Cromwell is open source man. You bios devs should really look at this. I'd also like to know if it's possible to change the X Lip of a Xecutor bios. You know the X logo aboe the Xecutor text, it would be really cool to change that. Well tell me why cromwell can do two hard drives at once first though.

Uhm...maybe because once you load the cromwell bios, the xbox is no longer an xbox.  Its not a "hack" in the MS kernel, its a totally seperate.

btw, merged with the last thread that asked this, might help those that SEARCH first for their answer.

So then is swapping the DVD for another HDD just a case of plugging in the ribbon cable and wiring in the power? I'm sure it can't be that easy??? Not needing the DVD drive anymore. All files will be sent using the ethernet. just nedding two Hdds.

Anyone know of a decent tutorial?

Nice one cheers

No, it isn´t possible to switch the dvd for a hdd, atleast not being able to use both at the same time. I guesss you could set a switch alá project 411 to switch between the drives.

You cannot have two hard drives working simultaneously, but you can have a larger hard drive installed, up to any size you want.  See the pinned post regarding LBA48 above.

Assuming you want it to store games, then no you can't have two drives.  If you are running Linux then you can replace the DVD with another HDD.

You could run a switch between the hard drives, but to have them run in sync, i think u have to use the cromwell bios.  I know for sure it supports that kinda stuff.
