What Modchip Should I Choose ?
« Reply #61 on: May 16, 2004, 12:18:00 PM »

I came here to try and find some answers to differentiate between all the choices available.  From all the posts, it really seems that for most people, any chip you choose will be fine.

The one thing im curious about though, and I havent seen explained anywhere is what is the difference between 3rd and 4th generation chips?  What new features exist in the 4th gen chips, and why is it important to me?

Ive got a friend who is familiar with the x2 chips and can do the soldering for me.  Ive seen a lot of posts pimping the smartxx and xenium chips.  Im know any chip right now will allow me to do all the basic stuff i want to do (movies, backups, emulators) right now.  However, as I learn more, and get into this more, am i going to regret going with the x2 and not getting a 4th gen chip (or even waiting on the x3)?

Thanks in advance for any replies  beerchug.gif

What Modchip Should I Choose ?

I've been doing some research over the weekend on some modchips, and since I'm a noob, I'd like some more info. I'm deciding between the x2.3b pro or the x-bit? I'd prefer a solderless one, but won't cry if I have to solder it myself. I play a good bit on XBOX Live, so I would definately need an enable/disable switch (preferable an external one). I know that the X2.3 has one of these, but does the x-bit? I keep hearing and reading that it has a stealth mode? Any help or comments greatly appreciated.

Ok. Now im thinking of getting a Xenium modchip with soldierless install.  I looked at the installation guide and it said that version 1.0 xboxes have soldier in the LPC ports.  I opened it up and sure enough there is soldier in the LPC ports.  Can i still install a modchip without soldiering?

videogamer1116 - yes. check the tutorials for solderless installs and you can see how easy it is. Simple as cleaning a small area of the motherboard with alcohol, and screwing on an adapter.

X-killer305 - There is no corrolation between modchip preformance and DVD-ROM type. You cannot pick a modchip based on your DVD-ROM drive.

I am also interested in the difference between gen 4 and 3 chips.  I've seen the mod chip table and compared them, but I don't know exactly what all the different features are.  What is the compelling reason to get a 4th generation chip like Xenium or SmartXX as opposed to an Xecuter 2.3b or the like?  Is there any big things coming up that I would miss out on with a 3rd gen chip?

Thanks

hey, i have to modfiy my halo x boxit looks like a v 1.4 from the outside, still waiting on a T-10 screwdriver :S and I was looking at the xecutor 2.3b lite+. But three things confuse me

a) do these mod chips play pal cds if you have an ntsc system. that is im getting cds from asia which are likely to be copies in pal format will they work? I mean last i remeber that used to be the most basic and general use of modification chips but times have changed and I cant seem to find a written statement as to if they do or do not work.

cool.gif what about dvd playback does it work without the kit? Or do you need to use the DVX2 software?

c) whats with all this flashing the bios. Doesnt the Lite version come pre-flashed, that way you dont have to if thats the case, then do I need to flash my bios?

Yes as you can tell, im pretty new to all this stuff but im reading up and getting confused thats why I posted this.

Please reply soon thanks!

Ok, i know that xbit connects to the computer via usb, but how does xenium?  Do you just put in cdrw or dvdrw with bios or hacks?

I'm stuck for choice between http://www.divineo.c...xb-smartxx.html and http://www.divineo.c...rod=xb-x23lplus .
(SmartXX and Xecuter 2.3b+)

They're both the same price, but SmartXX has way more features. SmartXX needs to be soldered though, and I'm not that great at soldering.
I want to run Evolution X and back up my games to an upgraded HDD, which Im pretty sure Xecuter can do, but I also would like to use linux and network my X-box. Can the Xecutor use linux and network? Is there anything useful that Xecuter misses out on that SmartXX has? How hard is SmartXX to solder?

Thanks for helping me choose guys,

QUOTE (XboxNia @ May 6 2004, 02:49 AM)
Im looking for a solderless modchip that is cheap i dont care about 1 meg 2 meg crap i just want a chip that cheap i do not have a ton of cash to spend can anyone direct me to a place where i can get a cheap chip preferable solderless i wish the chameleons were still for sale i dont understand why everyone has to sell it 50$ us im from canada and its 69$ for it and then there is the shipping cost.... and whats going on with easybuy2000 and there chip its super expensive and they keep pushing the date back and back doesnt sound to reliable..

You know what you should do? go to www.gocybershop.ca i live in canada 2 but i think im going to buy a SmartXX modchip ,well i hear its the best one.

DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM EASYBUY they have a horrible choice in modchips and dont even sell smart XX.

I would go 2 www.gocybershop.ca they sell an alliden for like $26 US you can also change the currency to canadain and it will tell u + they offer free shipping if u live in canada trust worth the site and the money

I can't speak for other modchips, but I have two Executer2 lites, and they have worked great. One has the enable/disable,bios select, & safety switch seperate, so you can stick it right to the outside of your box. Don't be scared of the soldering, I was, and it turned out just fine, twice. Just read everything on this site, and then read it again.
If you go with a solder chip, and you do it yourself, just relax, take your time, and follow the tutorials very carefully. you'll find most of it is common sense.  Don't burn the crap out of the circuit board, don't peel up one of the little circuits and so on.
The hardest thing for me was flashing the bios, It was a little confusing at first, but it was actually very easy. Every question you want to ask, has already been asked and answered somewhere in these forums. Look around for the answer. I'm a newb too, but I managed so far.
I'll answer any questions if I can.
While your deciding on chips, go get mirc and read everything there, then get FlashFXP and read that.

Hi
I was hoping if you guys can help me find a good modchip as I am going to pick up my xbox in a couple of days and I would like the best, the price is not an issue just as long it wont damage my box. This is only because I have got and old xbox and I got a chip put in it in Asia and a few weeks back I opened it up because it was making a strange noise and they had totally cover the inside with some kind of rubber insulator but I can still make backups games with this one, I am just after the best chip for my new one so I can play online and my backup games by just putting them in the machine with no software on it like evolutionx I have on my old one.

Thanks..
