What Modchip Should I Choose ?
« Reply #45 on: April 21, 2004, 09:52:00 AM »

me too im also a newbie here. and im instrested in the xecuter 2.3b lite + im thinking about purchasing it today. but where do i get that fiber glass pen to make the do point look like copper? and is it really that simple, just unscrew and than screw it back with the chip in the mother-board? there isnt that much detailed information the the switch installation either. before i purchase this chip, is there another one that is simple to install. solder-less in myway to go. is the matrix solderless? and if so, is it better than the xecuter 2.3b lite+?

Pretty much any chip will be fine for that. They all do primarily the same thing. Some just have a few features that others dont./

I got the translucent green xbox with a phillips dvd rom and I believe it's version 1.2.  I'd like as little soldering as possible but still have the most features and failsafes. Soldering one or two things is fine but I don't want any ps2 style jobs heh.

Money is not really a concern, so which is the best for me smartXX?

I have an Aladdin 64 plus.  I did not install, had it done.

It seems to work just fine, andno problems to date.

I can't say if it better or worse than other chips

There isn't really a "best" modchip, nor is there a modchip specifically designed for hacking Halo. Any modchip will do, as long as you can correctly install it, flash the BIOS, and get it running.

For a huge list of all current modchips, AND details and descriptions of every one, check out the link in the first post of this thread.

The cheapest are probably the latest Aladdin chips.

The easiest to install (but more expensive) are the Xenium with its solderless adapter, or the Xecuter 2.3b Lite+ (the + sign means solderless with Xecuter chips).

Seriously.. ALL the info is on this page.. read it!! smile.gif

Not forgetting the XBIT.  Though it doesn't have it's OS like the latest modchips, it still sizes up to the xecuter and is very easy with it's solderless install.

Ok, i was reading that and im thinking of getting the x-b.i.t.  I dont have a soldiering iron.  Do i have to soldier the wires?  and then there are optional soldiering points.  Do i need to soldier them to hack halo?

ok, like  many i too an a newb and also like many i too have researched.  I was thinking of getting the Xecuter 2.3B Lite+ but when i went to their website and saw the installation step by step pictures, i got scared when i saw
"YOU MUST BE CAREFUL. It is easy to PERMANENTY damage the d0 point."
I was wondering if 'all' the modchips needed the d0 point scratched?  I also was wondering if there was a chip that didnt require me scratching the insides of my xbox by using a knife and reading it could Permanenty Damage( which really scared me )

Nope - I am guessing that the optional wires you are talking about are the Power and Eject trick wires (where you can hold the eject button for X seconds, and it will boot with the modchip off or on, depending on how it's configured). That's an optional trick and not necessary for the modchip to work.

blackmamba - an alternative to scratching is to dip a Qtip in alcohol, and give the d0 point a gentle rub.

So far, I've never had to scratch a d0 point.. like you, I was nervous, so I did the alcohol rub instead. If you're using a solderless modchip, it's probably best to give the LPC points a rub as well.
