Am I able to link my xbox directly to my PC. Or am I required to go through a router?

I don't want to come across as unhelpful but the first thing you should have done before posting is go to the tutorials section:

http://www.xbox-scen...m/tutorials.php

Read the guide for noobs, it's an excellent starting point. In answer to your question you do not need a router but you do need a crossover cable/network card. I think people will be more willing to help you out if you've attempted to learn the basics first off. 2 weeks ago I knew nothing, I still haven't managed to connect my X-Box to PC but at least I've gained some knowledge which I'm happy to share biggrin.gif

you can link directly to your pc with a crossover cable.
set you ip and gateway Ip the same on your pc

example 192.168.0.1 IP and gateway 192.168.0.1 ( on pc)

then on your xbox

ip           192.168.0.3

gateway  192.168.0.1

then it will work ..

hope that helps

Use a crossover cable between them & assign your xbox & your PC a static IP.

You can link directly to from your PC to your Xbox without a router. You need to use a static IP address on your Xbox because tyour will not get your DHCP without the router. Then use Flash FXP to transfer files to the Xbox IP address.

HINT/TRICK: If your are trying to use WinXP home to connect directly from your PC and Xbox and you cannot get static IP to work, set up internet connection sharing on your XP computer and it will give your Xbox a DHCP IP. This sometimes doesn't work on EVO so switch to Avalaunch and it seems to work everytime.

I've been successfully ftping to my xbox with a crossover cable for some months now. However, I recently just tried to ftp (using the exact same method I have hundreds of times) and it just won't work for me.

My xbox's IP is the default 192.168.100.10, I set my PC's ip to 192.168.100.11

FlashFXP seems to connect when I click the connect button, but none of my xbox's directories appear in its window and I get this in the log window:

Connecting to 192.168.100.10
Connected to 192.168.100.10 Port 21
220 Please enter your login name now.
USER xbox
331 Password required for xbox.
PASS (hidden)
230 User xbox logged in , proceed.
SYST

REST 100

This site may not allow file resuming
PWD
257 "/" is current directory
TYPE A
200 Type set to ASCII.
PASV
502 pasv is not implemented.
PORT 192,168,100,11,4,221

nothing happens for a few moments, and I finally get something along the lines of this:

425 Can't open data connection to 192.168.100.11:14852
502 ÿôÿòÿòabor is not implemented.

I've tried a couple of other ftp clients just in case but I get the same problems.

This is indeed puzzling.

You know I had the same thing happening and it turned out to be the most silliest thing. The firewall on the comp was the problem. Maybe you're having the same prob I had.
