Diff Between Dashboard And Bios
« on: January 21, 2004, 06:43:00 AM »

Just as an addon, and correct me if I am wrong.

What the bios does is tell the Xbox what media checks to make, and what to do after the media checks are done.

I am pretty sure this is what they do, please correct me if I am wrong.

Yep, the bios sets the RULES the xbox will follow.  It tells the operating system what it can and can't do.

It does a bit more than that I think. It also does system checks and initializes the hardware before going through the dashboard boot sequence.

Whats the need for an Operating system, BIOS and Dashboard then???  they seem to perform small tasks - why not roll them all into one??

Dashboard: file stored on the hd that the xbox uses to boot up. It is kinda like the xbox's operating system.

Bios: data stored on the EEPROM (either the modchip eeprom for the modchip bios or the xbox EEPROM for the xbox bios)
