Hi. I have 1.2 Xbox. I wanted to flash the TSOP. I used EvolutionX and 256kB BIOS Evox. I don't know what I did wrong, but actually console is fragging.

Is there a possibility to repair it instead of mounting a modchip to rest of console life?

You can also use a 29 wire modchip

guess you could go ahead and try the 3 wire trick. just in case you have a 1mb bios but im prety sure a 1.2 has 256k.
then as mentioned you have the 29 wire junk. Horrible ammount of tedious soldering job,
or the semi possible hot swap chip with the tsop bios, which a tutorial exists for right here on the foum,

apart from that just dump a chip on the lpc and call it a day.

1.2 = 256kb, so no three wire trick.

Maybe I manage to get an old 29-wire chip. Is it difficult to solder it?
If I solder it, I will be able to flash TSOP? Or the operation will be more complicated?

Personally, I think the 29-wire is easier than what a TSOP transplant would be. I have performed/overseen many 29-wire (homebrew) modchip installs. They are fairly easy to (make and) install, as long as you can solder well.

EDIT:Yes, you can use it to repair the TSOP.

The one in the pic with the little sticker that says "M8" is a 29-wire.

Guy who has this modchips remove the label. Modchip looks like this

Those mangled looking things in the picture are not the chip legs. They are nubs of wire. Apparently, this is a picture of a 29 wire that has been cut out of an xbox just prior to having its picture taken. I wouldn't buy that chip. The legs appear to have been trimmed also, so it would be impossible to socket that chip.

And yes, to answer your question shambles. The legs on those chips are very fragile. One or 2 bends max and they will break off right at the chip, rendering it useless.

Yes, modchiip has legs with cutted cables.

Is there a possibility to home-made a modchip like this? But I have not any programmer.

You should be able to use an old bios chip from a old PC - and possibly flash it on the PC as well.

You would need two EEPROM bios chips unless you can get it right the first time.

Boot the PC (DOS boot disk) and hotswap the EEPROM and use the PC utility to flash the BIOS. It may or may not let you use the xbox bios image file. If it screws up turn off the PC and try again....

The EPROM you have pictured needs to be erased via ultraviolet light and a high(er) voltage programmer, so go with an EEPROM.

I would just like to add confirmation. This does work. I have done many.

Using Uniflash, you can flash any bios file, regardless of whether it is for Xbox or PC.

As an added confirmation measure: Flash the chip with the bios of your choice, and before you exit the program, use uniflash to "backup" the chip. Then open the "backup.bin" in xbtool or similar program to confirm that the bios was read from floppy/written to the chip properly.
