Hi

Last year i did a soft mod on my xbox, but had a nightmare as i apparently followed an old tutorial, and it took me about 10 hours to do it properly as i messed it all up

i have the splinter cell game, the usb drive and connector cable, so wanted to do it this way
i dont want to change the HD, just install XBMC

Could someone please recommend 1 tutorial to follow so i dont make the same mistake again
thanks all

Judging by the splinter cell and usb cable/ drive i'm gueesing you will be softmodding again and not TSOP flashing ? - they are different.

oh didn't know that uhh.gif

So I guess I'm soft modding then!
I want to keep the HD and just load on xbmc, so I think a softmod will do fine.

Does this effect my original question? I.e. Is there an easy upto date tutorial I should follow
thanks

It does, using splinter cell will make it a 10 min job.Do you have the 2 file folders that need to be loaded onto the usb stick ? If so and you have downloaded xplorer360 you need to plug the usb stick into your pc and then open xplorer360 and then drag the 2 files onto the usb stick. If the stick hasnt been used before, plug it into your xbox and go to the memory menu, browse it and then the xbox will ask to erase but as there is nothing to erase it will ask for you to format it.

Just found the guide i used - Splinter cell softmod

Cheers fella

I just got the xbox out of the box to softmod and it sounds like the HD is knackered and I have the flashing lights on power button!
Can I put another xbox HD in or is the EPROM on the brokenhd needed?

Yes to swap hhd's you need the eeprom off the hdd/ motherboard to lock the new hdd. There are ways around it, look on the link i sent you as there is a guide for building a new hdd and recovering a hdd.

thanks all

i took the lid off, fiddled with some cables and it worked!
just finished the softmod and installed xbmc as the default dash and added the confluence skin for good measure

thanks for all your help!

Glad to help, now go get some component cables and up the res to 720P  pop.gif

If you want to fit a larger hdd, get a program called chimps, you install on the xbox and once booted up you put a hdd in place of the dvd and copy the contents of original hdd to the new one - you will need a molex power splitter to do it or be really close to a pc.

thanks fella

i was hoping to use XBMC as an all in one solution and not have a PC involved
think that may be a bit tricky
