1.1 Tsop Issue
« on: January 24, 2009, 04:17:00 PM »

ive read soo many guides and it just plain wont work

i have a modchip and i want to flash the bios.....i have soldered all the crap on, and then try doing it in evoX but when i click on Flash bios, nothing shows up......

so i used the mech assault eurasia pack and did the gamesave exploit and got to the flash bios screen there

i click flash the 1mb bios and it flickers up 3 messages in quick succession, the last of which is

"Manufacturers ID 01 Device ID c4
!! Unknown Flash Type !!

i HAVE added the md5 sum of my bios to the ini files in the exploit save

i have added all of the flash hash's from the giant list here on xbox-scene, however my TSOP says this, and i didnt see it on the list....

it says this: HYUNDAI KOREA
                   HY29F080T-90
                   0019A

please help me out here.........oh and one more questinon....since i have a modchip shouldnt i theoretically be able to flash my BIOS just with the evoX option Flash BIOS? but i cant......the bios dont even show up as options unless i use a gamesave exploit

You can't flash the TSOP if you boot from the chip, which is why you are struggling. You need to put the TSOP flash gamesave on your Xbox, then boot with the chip disabled (i.e. boot the stock MS BIOS), load the game, etc.

The alternative is to install a Kingroach softmod, boot with the chip disabled into the softmod, then use Evox to flash your TSOP.

You don't need the BIOS MD5 in the exploit save, but you do need the flash ID for your chip. However ..... I can't find a Flash entry for your chip either, nor can I find a flash entry for the manufacturer/device combination you gave. Manufacturer 01 is AMD, and I can't find any device with an ID of c4. Are you sure about those numbers?

yesir, i'm possitive. So what exaclty should i do about the lack of a flash entry for my tsop? is that possible?

ill try out booting without the modchip and see where that takes me, but once again, those are the numbers

According to the datasheet the device code for a Hynix (Hyundai) HY29F080T-90 is 0xd5......so something is clearly wrong there.

Also, in the raincoat and evox config files all of the 29F080 chips apart from one are device code d5:

Flash = 0x01d5,"AMD Am29F080B",0x100000
Flash = 0x04d5,"Fujitsu MBM29F080A",0x100000
Flash = 0xadd5,"Hynix HY29F080",0x100000
Flash = 0xc2d5,"Macronix MX29F080",0x100000

The odd one out is this one:

Flash = 0x20f1,"ST M29F080 series",0x100000

So, I'd be tempted to make sure that your raincoat.conf file has all of the above lines in it, and see what happens.

Ahh!! Hang on - the penny has dropped - the chip ID that you are reading ISN'T the one from the TSOP, it's the one from your modchip, because that's where you booted from! That's why the IDs don't match!!!! Doh!

So just make sure you have:

Flash = 0xadd5,"Hynix HY29F080",0x100000

in your raincoat.conf and you'll be fine.

Out of interest, which modchip do you have, and what's the part number on the actual flash chip?

No - I didn't mean that. I meant that the chip ID Raincoat is reading (Manufacturers ID 01 Device ID c4) is from your modchip, not from your Hynix TSOP.

The Hynix flash entry from my previous post will be fine. Just boot from your TSOP and the flash will work.

ok, will do. Quick question. im trying to boot from TSOP, but since i have an early xbox, there are no error codes. What files do i need on my C drive to have it work correctly?

or can i lock a larger HDD with the modchip then boot into it wihtout the modchip?

You need a set of stock C dash files on the C partition - you can get them from Slayers or CASH. You could install a different drive, boot with Slayers (with your chip turned on), then use Slayers to format and build the stock C and lock the new disk.
