Tsop Flashing V1.3/v1.4 Xbox
« on: January 20, 2009, 03:35:00 PM »

I want to TSOP flash (without soldering) both of my Xbox's.

Has anyone here used blutack with a wire instead of solder or something to temporary bridge the two points?

Is this the correct location for bridging the two points?

IPB Image

So is it a long wire from R7D2 to R710 or do you just join the two points at both locations with a little bit of wire in-between?

After that, I use EurAsia Pro Generic Flash Disc to flash the TSOP?

Thanks.

I've never used wire and blu-tack, but you don't put a long wire between the two sets of points - you make 2 separate bridges (where the two blue circles are). There's a post here somewhere about temporarily using tape and wire to bridge the points - I can't find it, but I found this one, with lots of links... happy reading!

If your TSOP is anything other than Winbond you can flash it from Evox - it's easier to use than Eurasia.

you bridge the 2 points in the circle together, then do the same for the other circle (so no long wire)

if you dont want to solder look for a trace pen, or some rear window defogger repair compound

i would not suggest trying to stick wires to the points with blutack

Thanks for the tips!

BTW, what would be a good way to test if the TSOP has been flashed properly after flashing?

use a bios with a customized flubber or X-logo color, then youll know right away, although if something goes wrong youll probably find out during the flash process as opposed to after

Anyone know of a place in the UK (online or bricks & mortar) where you can purchase a trace pen (conductive pen) for a good price?

Will do.

BTW, thought I'd apply new thermal grease, Arctic Cooling MX-2 to the CPU/GPU and it lowered temps by 5c on both. Not bad!

Does the defogger compound need to dry before the TSOP is writeable or do I just apply it and flash teh TSOP straight away?

Also, does the compound wear off with time or is it permanent?

Ok, the defogger compound has been on the points for over an hour but EvoX still complains the flash is not writeable.

The TSOP is a ST M29f002BT and the Xbox is v1.4 and the TSOP flash pack I am using is "highway_007mech_flash_pack"

Any reason why it ain't working?  sad.gif

I have the correct points bridged.

The standard Evox.ini doesn't have a flash entry for that chip. Paste

Flash = 0x01b0,"AMD Am29F002BT/NBT",0x40000

into your evox.ini in the same section as the rest of the flash entries, and have another go.

Just tried with that entry and it didn't work, says flash isn't writeable (0x09). I then copied the flash entries from raincoat.cfg to evox.ini and it still didn't work. The bios is 256k and the version no. is X2.4981.06.

Do I need to add so much defogger compound that the points that are bridged are no longer viewable?

Did you clean and gently scrape the points with a small knife before you applied the defogger, to make sure you get a good connection?

I did clean the points but didn't scrape them. Is that mandatory?

Also, how much defogger needs to be applied?

It's not mandatory, but the surface of the points will have oxidised over time, increasing the resistance of any surface contacts.

There's a picture somewhere of the points bridged with conductive ink / defogger so you can see how much to use..... but I can't find it!

Finally flashed it succesfully after scraping the points.

What can I use to clean off the compound?

Thanks!
