try using configmagic to undo any changes you made to your eeprom and see if you can get it to boot that way

for installing the softmod, since you have FTP access witht he chip enabled you can use kingroach's ndure installer instead of SC

as for how the softmod loads the dashboard, the MS bios loads xboxdash.xbe, which patches the bios in memory so it can run unsigned code (this is where it locks with a balck screen with the chip on) it then launches another app that loads a totally different bios, which in turn loads your custom dash from E:\dashdefault.xbe (so if you want to change the dash you change it there, once the softmod is installed dont mess with C at all)

but for now dont evenw orry about the softmod, elts get your xbox booting from the TSOP first, so check your eeprom if you can

Hi guys,

sorry for the delay in posting. been busy with family & work stuff sad.gif

I've not done anything with it over the last 24hours, need to think about my steps & what i've done to upset it... (just not had chance yet)

I'm going to re-read the thread from scratch as i've documented most of it on here, possibly try resoldering the switches again, I will certainly try configmagic again.

it's helpful to know about the softmod boot process - thanks. exactly the explanation i was looking for tyvm smile.gif

even though i am not at that stage yet, it certainly makes a difference understanding the boot process & where things can / are going wrong.

I plan to have a look at it again tomorrow, so will post again once i've tried something new smile.gif

thanks

If all else fails you might want to have a look at this method for fixing a broken TSOP. I've never had to use it myself - although I've collected the files and taken a copy of the instructions, just in case!!!
