Any kind of conductive material would work. I mean a drop of water would work. Just some ways are not advised because of the risk involved

[physics lesson] Salt water that is (or water ionized some other way), since water is not a conductor but the minerals contained it are water conducts the current and regular tap water would not have enough conductivity for such a small voltage (~5v), actually I doubt with using tap water you would see any effects adverse or otherwise.[/physics lesson]

Hmmmmmmm I'm thinking a new xbox submarine mod tongue.gif

OK, guys this is silly.  I was in the situation you were in trying to flash with a bit of wire, and it is a terrible method.

In the end all I had to do was put a dab of solder on the end of the iron and touch the points.  The pads instantly melted and the points were connected.

I've done atleast 3 version 1.1's this way and have not messed up yet.  But I have also successfully flashed while holding a screwdriver on the solder points on top of the mobo.  It was extremely nerve wracking, and if I had twitched in the slightest way I would have bricked my xbox.

You should reconsider using methods that might introduce more human error than is necessary.  The soldering is really not that hard.

Hrm. I have a fair amount of wire from my girlfriend's jewelry making supplies, so I might have to try this. I've got a 1.4 box sitting around.

Somebody tried this: http://forums.xbox-s...&...t&p=4323455

I gathered what he did was tracing the alternate write enable points and there are tiny vias on the motherboard along the paths and he linked them with strands of stripped IDE cables.

But like I said, this won't work for a Sharp tsop.

That's what I did and I was surprised it worked.
It is by no means a perm solution as you will have to do it again to update the Bios in the future.  I don't know what made me think about using IDE cable but my "sodder" skills are not what they use to me.

I did not have a sharp TSOP.  Thank God.
