Well, I decided to grow a pair and just try reopening my xbox, putting in a new HD and using slayer 2.6 to format a new drive with the msdash. Only problem I ran into was that my TSOP bios was looking for xboxdash.xbe instead of the evox dash. A quick FTP into the box and some renaming fixed that, and I'm now up and running with a 120gb drive and xbmc.
Since it's working fine I've decided against reflashing the TSOP for the moment, so this post is really not on-topic for this forum. Mods feel free to move or obliterate this post as needed.
