From what you wrote, it sounds like a TSOP flash.  Although I can't be 100% sure.  One time I thought a member had a TSOP flash then it turned out to be that he had a 29-wire modchip hiding under the motherboard.

well if it says xecuter2 its definately a hardmod (chip or TSOP flash)

you shoudl be able to install linux as an app, but if you want to run the bios you need to find out your version and i would make 100% sure you know what kind of mod you have before proceeding

A small wire?  What version of xbox?  Is there a wire top and bottom?  Either way, as long as your box is modded, you can run linux as an app (as vader stated).  I am more curious about the wire though.  It may be to join the write enable points.  Does it join these points (for your version)?

The wire could be used for a frag/coma fix, therefore only enabling 256K of 1M of the TSOP.

EDIT:Any possible way you can post a pic of the bottom of the mobo?

Yes it could be, if it goes from a18 or a19 to ground (shown here).  Compare this image to your wire on the bottom of the mobo.  Either that or someone just wanted to boot off one back for some reason.  If this is the case, he should be able to boot with the wire on, cut it and flash the entire tsop (not the problem here, but i would).

Doesnt look like a18/19 to ground (you can see the ground).  Looks more like a wire going from WR to WE for write enable.

Sure, assuming you have a v1.0/1.1, which the wire leads me to believe, you can simply follow this.  Then you will need to flash one half of the chip (one side of the switch).

well, as the picture shows, you will need a SPDT switch, and some wire, solder, and a soldering iron

solder a wire from the purple point on the motherbaord, to the the purple leg on your switch, repeat for red and blue (green is only needed if you want a 4-way split)

then flash your bios normally

After you solder in the switch you will have 2 banks. One side is bank 1, flip the switch and there is bank 2. Flash after you put the switch in.

EDIT: My personal preference of wire, an old floppy cable.
