Xbox Wont Boot With Or With Out Mod Chip
« on: March 18, 2006, 11:05:00 AM »

Not sure if this is the correct forum but think issue might be EEProm related.

Hardware: (NOTE: Have 2 Xbox’s)

Xbox v1.4 (A) with retail HD, Retail Image on HD, working EEProm
Xbox v1.4 (B)  with 10GB HD, slayer 2.6 image, possibly corrupted EEProm.
Xenium SP Gold with Xenium O/S 2.3.1

Problem:
Xbox (B) boots and FRAG’s, blank screen. (NO modchip installed, retail bios – EEProm)
Xbox (B) boots to blank screen and eject button LED blinks green. (With Installed Xenium chip, non-retail bios loaded from Mod chip)

Troubleshooting Performed:
1)   Removed retail HD from Xbox (A) and replaced with 10GB HD w/slayer image.  Installed Xenium Chip.  Boots fine to MS Dash and Slayer.  Successfully ran M8 (for 1.4), M7, X2 4977, and X2 4981 bios.
2)   Installed 10GB HD in Xbox (B) w/slayer image. Installed Xenium Chip. When Xbox boots from retail bios it FRAG’s.  When Xbox is booted from M8 (for 1.4), M7, X2 4977, and X2 4981 bios the screen is blank and the LED blinks green.
3)   Tried backing up EEProm from Xbox (A) and restoring to Xbox (B).  Same results as number 2.
4)   Tried Cromwell-Patcher to backup of EEProm from Xbox (A), then restore patched EEProm to Xbox (B). Same results as number 2.

Any suggestions as to what my next trouble shooting steps might be, if any?

Thx.

definitely sounds like an eeprom issue.

But I could be wrong.

I would suggest doing one of the following or both:

1.  Using Xbox A's eeprom backup, create an eeprom-embedded bios.  I would personally use XBTool with an X2 4981 bios.

2.  Download Flashbios v3.0.3 unauthorized by shepd.  This will boot even if you have a corrupt eeprom.  Use it to flash either a specific eeprom from disc or a generic public eeprom automatically.

If you do option 2 and choose the generic eeprom, you would obviously have to reflash it again to the actual eeprom using configmagic.

Hopefully this helps, but repairs are always a mystery.
