follow the instructions in this link and you will be able to switch the video mode as well as update the eeprom in one go...

besides the instructions you will need a valid xbox eeprom with the correct video mode and region. you can use the pc app called "live info" to verify the eeprom you work with is valid.

good luck!!

Mate, simply start the flashbios unauthorized, choose the Xbox version you have and reflash the eeprom. After that the machine will start (if the problem was the eeprom) so with eeprom tools like Configmagic for example you can load your saved bin file and REPROGRAM the eeprom with your original content once again.

But if you prefer the other way, here it is:

so start the program with this command line

 addEeprom cromwell-patched.bin eeprom.bin

where cromwell is the cromwell modified bios and eeprom.bin is your saved eeprom bin file

the patcher will patch the cromwell bios then, so you can flash this cromwell-patched.bin file into the DUO2. Then start the machine and your Xbox should start using the embedded eeprom and it will reflash your eeprom with its original content. That's it.

 regards, Stephen

pS: ONE IMPORTANT NOTE the cromwell bios is dangerous if you try it on other Xboxes than the dead one. As it reflashes the eeprom with no question so you can fuck up working machines while using this.

Hey u_n_s97,

I'm thinking its much easier to just flash the eeprom using flashbios as well, but I can't read the screen because its set to pal and keeps rolling. I was looking for hours for the steps to select the version 1.6 eeprom so I could scrool blind and flash it that way, but I can't find them

If you use flashbios unauthorized 3.01 then the eeprom recovery options (depends on your Xbox version) are the last three lines. So, there are about 8 menu items, you should navigate down at least ten times and you are at the bottom. Then the last is for 1.6, above that is for 1.1-1.5 and above that it's for 1.0. If you reflash the wrong version there is no tragedy, as the machine simply will not start, so what could you lose ???

awesom, that worked great, I scrolled down 10 to the bottom presses A and when I rebooted it came up.

Thanks u_n_s97

I'm getting a hardrive error, I guess its because of the eeprom not being the original. The only original backup is on the Hardrive, Is there a way to get back in to reflash the eeprom with it?

if the hdd is locked, you're unfortunately pooched, unless you have the key to unlock it, in which case, do so, and the modchip will be able to access the drive.

I though so, oh well no biggie, it was the original drive anyway, time to upgrade it. Atleast the xbox is up and running again.

Much appreciated to everyone who helped me out with this prob, great site..

As the original eeprom content is on the hard drive, and it's locked then it's gone for good. ALWAYS make a backup of the eeprom on your PC, that could save a lot of headache and money. Anyway, nice to hear that it worked. Luckily you have another Xbox (and the awesome Duo2) with what you were able to reprogram your chip. smile.gif

 regards, Stephen

by the way, if the hardrive was unlocked and locked earlier with Evox or Configmagic or with some Linux based chip, you may try the usual passwords, TEAMASSEMBLY or XBOXLINUX.

yes, saw that floating around earlier, the only downside is obviously that it blanks the drive, but you can't have everything.
i did get the notion that, depending on where the locking is done (and stored; presumably on the mainboard on the bottom) - if you were to unscrew the mainboard, and disconnect it from the head that reads the platters, then I wonder if it'd go through the "erasing" process; unlock itself, but of course, it won't have been able to actually erase the data.

I didn't mind erasing it and reloading with slayers, it was useless as it was. I'm sure others in the same situation will agree.
