If the original hdd is dead and gone and you dont have the eeprom then you'll have to buy or borrow a mod chip. You'll have to mod it with a chip, install the upgraded hdd, lock the hdd after it's all working and can boot to the M$ dash with the chip off, and you can do the tsop flash while the mod chip still installed but it has to be disabled. Getting a MOD chip is really not an option, so I guess I am going back to trying to unlock the old Retail Drive and fix the ERROR CODE 16.

Another possibility.... Will the DuoX work with a V1.0???

Well, I have tried every conceivable method of unlocking this retail drive with XBOXHDM v1.9. None of the UNLOCK options available will work.

Is there other software out there that will do this?

Will I be able to relock it with XBOXHDM??

Also, I heard some really bad clicking from the HD after it was spinning for about 10-20 mins. I am guessing that means the drive is on it's way out...

I have decided that the most expedited way to get this V1.0 up and running is to simply pull my MODCHIP (DUOX2) from the 1.6 and put it on the 1.0. I assume, then, that I will be able to boot up a hard drive (created with XBOXHDM v1.9) and then use the Mech Assault Mod to physically flash the TSOP. Then I will be able to pull the modchip out of the 1.0, put it back it the 1.6 and viola'.. I have 2 modded XBOXs.

Would that be a correct assessment??

Also, does anyone know the SIZE of the Header pins I need? A Radio Shack part # would be even better. I did a google for the info, but it is elusive.

Major success here!!

After a grueling 3 hr session (I have a 7 month old baby around and had to stop every few seconds) of soldering each pin onto the LPC, one by one, I finally got the v1.0 XBOX to boot!!!

The old drive appears to be completely toast, but that really doesn't matter. I am prepping a new 120 GIG Maxtor for use.

Now, the ONLY question I have left is this.

I want to FLASH the TSOP that is onboard of the 1.0 so I can pull the DUOX2 and put it back into my 1.6.

Would it be easier/better to use Slayers 2.6 disk to FLASH the TSOP on the 1.0?? Or use the MechAssault procedure?

Also, for whichever one I use, will it know to go to the V1.0's TSOP rather than the DUOX2's bios??

Finally, what would be the best bin these days to FLASH a v1.0 'Box??

go to xbins and look for kingroach's ndure installer, use it to generate C and E folders and FTP those to the HD, then disable the duox and you should be able to load a slayers cd (via the softmod)

I got the KingRoach installer and generated the C and E folders. I had to delete everything in the C Drive first to make everything from the KR fit.

Then I powered down and removed the DUOX2.

When I booted it back up, it booted with the standard Green XBOX screen and gave me an ERROR CODE 5.

I am guessing I need to LOCK the HD??

No it's not too bad of a deal... THis thing has been kickin' my arse all freekin week!

The hard part was soldering in the Header Pins one by one. But I am just gonna leave the damn things in there.

One last bone head question. How do you DISABLE the DUOX? Flippin the switch simply boots me into Cromwell.

I finally got the TSOP flashed and was able to load Slayers 2.6 and now everything is working fine.

There is a SLIGHT problem but it's impact is negligible.

The DVD drive on the box would not work. I cracked it's case and it appeared that the top was a tad bent and was preventing the disk from spinning when inserted. I fixed that issue and cleaned it real good.

I got it so I can put a store-bought game in and it reads it. It will also read Audio CDs... But it won't read burned disks like Slayers. I tried both the 2.6 disk and the 2.5 disk, both with the same result. It says NO DISK.

Is this a limitation of the software? ( I kind of doubt this)

Or, is it that the DVD drive is really not ALL the way fixed? (This is what I suspect.)

Are you using DVD-r/CD-RW for your slayer's disc?
