Problem Flashing Winbond W49f020t
« on: February 12, 2006, 03:30:00 PM »

Today I also flashed a 1.4 xbox with the winbond chip.

I soldered the 2 points on top of the motherboard.

Then put raincoat 0.7 and linux loader on my harddrive and used telnet to flash the xbox.

All went fine and my xbox is now running x2 4983 biggrin.gif

So you should try again with raincoat 0.7 I'm 100% sure it will work for you.

Hi There,

I have a version 1.4 XBox with a Winbond W949F020T TSOP. I have soldered two points on top of the motherboard as the tutorial says. I heard EVox is not able to flash these bioses because of some erase problem so I tried raincoat. Firstly I used 0.7 which didnt detect my chip until I added the correct line into the config, raincoat would let me dump my bios, but not flash it. I then tried raincoat 0.11 and it wouldnt let me do either saying "Invalid manufactures ID 0x90". I have tested the soldering on the motherboard and both of the points read there is a connection, and the resistance on the connection is 0 so its a good connection.

I'm wondering are there additional points to solder on the motherboard, or if raincoat doesnt support my TSOP. Please help me  blink.gif

grab 007_raincoat_0.7_2.20.04_andy_and_eXOBeX.rar off the usual places. i have that same winbond tsop on my 1.3 xbox and i flashed it successfully. i only bridged the top points.

You won't get raincoat 0.7 (only 0.6 and 0.7 resize the BIOS automatically, 0.11 wasn't based on it and doesn't have that functionality).

What TSOP's in your Xbox, then?  There are over 150 flash types in the raincoat.conf that comes with 0.7, I'm amazed yours wasn't there!

What was the line you had to add?

I originally thought Flash = 0x0900, "Winbond W49F020T",0x40000 was the correct ID for the Winbond chip until I turned out that 0x0900 is actually an error message spit out by raincoat. I searched for days looking for the Device ID for the Winbond W49F020T-90B chip but with no luck at all. I just dont think its supported sad.gif
