Recently Acquired V1.0 W/ Ec 16
« on: February 12, 2006, 07:54:00 AM »

I have a completly virgin v1.0.  Won't boot up, gives me Error Code 16.  I looked around and learned that this is a Dashboard/Corrupted Software problem.

I have soldered the 2 points necessary to do a TSOP flash, but cannot boot up with MechAssault.

Any suggestions??

OK, I spoke a little too soon.

I have a modified XBOX already.  I thought that I could swap it out, put it in the 1.0, set the TIME properly, yada yada yada.

But according to that link above, the only way you can do it is if you have a CHIP installed.

So, I am back to my original question.

What can I do with a virgin v1.0 that gives me the Error Code 16?  Note that I DO have a modded XBOX on hand.  It's a v1.6 with Duo X2 installed.

Would some sort of HOT SWAP procedure help me out of this jam?

yeah, unless you plan to install that duox2 in the 1.0 youll have to hotswap

power on the xbox, and just before the error screen pops up pull the HD IDE cable out, then plug it into your modded xbox and power it on, you should be able to load slayers and restore the stock C:/ files

be warned, the HD might be bad and need replacing (which would require a chip) a dying/dead HD can throw some odd error codes at you

Yea, the DuoX is hard-installed in my 1.6.  I would rather not mess with it.

Ok, just let me be clear on this.

I power up the 1.0.  Right before the error code pops up, I pull the IDE cable from the 1.0 Motherboard.  I then plug it into the 1.6 MB and then power the 1.6 XBOX up.

Does that sound right??

And, given that, I am assuming that I need to have the video hooked up to the 1.6 XBOX??

No worries.  It's a STOCK Drive and it is on it's way out anyways.

Thanx a bunch.

Dodged a bullet on THAT one!

Turns out my DUO X was not seated properly.

OK, getting back to the original plan.

OK  Here is what I did..

I put the two XBOXs in close proximity to each other.

I booted the v1.0 and let it get past the music where it was trying to read the DVD in the drive.

I then pulled the IDE connector off the v1.0 HD and plugged in the IDE Connector from the v1.6 HD.

I then started up the v1.6.

It booted to a screen that said, "OOOOPS SOMETHING IS WRONG" and had an error code in a little box that said 06.  I am assuming that this is the OOOPS screen generated by the DUO X mod.

OK  After re-reading Vader's post, I understood a little more of what he is saying.

Here is what I did.

I powered up the v1.0 XBOX with the STOCK drive.

After the audio ended, while the v1.0 was trying to read the DVD, I pulled the IDE Connector out of the STOCK HD and plugged it into the v1.6 XBOX HD.

I then powered up the v1.6 XBOX.

The v1.0 XBOX just sits at the big green XBOX screen.

I am getting closer!! I can feel it!!!   biggrin.gif

I know how to fix this error:

Boot your PC with xboxhdm+ms dash files on a CDRW and unplug your primary ide cable.

On to your xbox:

Unplug the DVD Player IDE cable, but leave the HDD IDE cable in.

Now turn on your xbox, it should give error 11 (no dvd player found)

The front led will flash red/green, wait till it does that 5 times.

Now pull out the HDD IDE cable. The xbox should stay on.

Put in your PC IDE Cable and press enter to boot xboxhdm.

Now restore your C:\ Drive with the original MS Dash files.

Now you can set the clock and your xbox is fixed biggrin.gif

I still think its strange that it boots to error 16? is it softmodded with a very old exploit or something?

Nope, it is a completely virgin v1.0 XBOX.  The seals had not even been broken on it.

Thanx.  I'll give yer suggestion a try.

the only real diference is the removal of the dvd drive to give you a few extra seconds to hotswap, you can do the same thing using your 1.6 and an evox cd instead of a pc with xhdm, your choice, whichever is easier

The problem with Hot Swapping the drive from the v1.0 to the v1.6 is that the 1.6 gives me a Error Code 06.  The drive is locked.

I just tried Hot Swapping to a PC running XBOXHDM and used option #4.  I get a bunch of INITDISKERRORs so I am beginning to think the drive is toast.

Assuming this is the case, what are my options for simply adding a bigger drive, which is my ultimate goal anyways.

I am going in a different direction, but I figured I would just keep it in this thread.

My situation.

I have decided to simply toss the retail HD and put in a new bigger HD.

The v1.0 has been hard-modded with the solder dollop procedure. Other wise it is in virgin condition.

What can I do to get a bigger HD into this puppy?

a tsop flash?
If the original hdd is dead and gone and you dont have the eeprom then you'll have to buy or borrow a mod chip. You'll have to mod it with a chip, install the upgraded hdd, lock the hdd after it's all working and can boot to the M$ dash with the chip off, and you can do the tsop flash while the mod chip still installed but it has to be disabled. Then you can pull the chip and have a tsop'd 1.0.
