My Experience Installing An Xray
« on: September 01, 2005, 01:39:00 PM »

i FUBARed my tsop and i need to punish myself and fix my xbox at the same time. So i ordered and xray3, which took two weeks and a day to come and the guy was an asshole, and soldered all 30 points (4 times and half a pack of newports) and got it to work. Whati originally did wrong was my wires were two long and the wires kept comming off and the chip was going everywhere, so i headed to radio shack and picked up some FLUX, and some DOUBLE SIDED FOAM TAPE BY 3M which makes life something of much easier. So i cut a piece off and put it on the xray (which was the 2nd biggest somewhere between the size of a xenium and an x3) and placed it on a vacant memory slot right below the LPC Holes and we were off!!!! wire by wire. TThe first time, the wires were to long, so i just unsoldered them ALL and resared (this was after i fitted the chip with foam tape and put flux on the points). WHen i finished checking the points for about 30 minutes, i then i measured some wires 3 and a half to 4 inches each like recommended by the guy who made the chip. I then soldered the chip. Didnt work. I was starting to think going through customs it erased or something ya know??? I then check every single damn point and realized i got 7 and 8 mixed up. Fixed it. No worky. I was gonna go to sleep, then i saw something WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA???? A wire had come up, two infact. I soldered them and bam i got a nice green X2  bios on my screen. Excellent. MUWAHAHAHAHAHA.... AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA. Excellent. For you guys who are real new to soldering, doing this chip isnt for you. It was the most difficult mod i had ever done, more complicated then my Hard drive lights/controller port lights.  If you fuxked up your tsop, buy a new board, ur just gonna burn the shit out of yourself before 19 dollars and 50 cents and many burns later, and two weeks that you fucked up.

Also note in this install, the chip didnt even fix my tsop. I cut EVERY SINGLE wire and everytime i flashed my tsop with a correct bios, which i know to be correct considering i have installed this chip about, ohhh, say 5 times already because it wouldnt flash my hynix tsop and i used a diff bios every time.

I would advise you to put a switch on your xray. Im pissed i waited 2 weeks and this chip didnt even fix my tsop, and i dont want to use it permanently because the wires are always popping off and its pissing me off. Im telling you, think twice before you get this shit.
