Tsop Flashed W/ Xray3 Still Frags
« on: April 24, 2005, 04:52:00 PM »

I have a v1.4, I got it dead.  Found out it was a winbond tsop problem, it would frag. I installed a xray3 it boots with the chip fine. I used a eurasia boot disk and bios disk to flash the tsop. Cut all of the xray wire before flash. I flashed it with the x2 4981.63 bios. eurasia program found my winbond chip fine. It erased fine, it flashed fine, it verified fine and completed. I removed the bios write jumpers on the top of the mb (2). (no jumpers installed on bottom.) Removed the xray3, tried to boot my box and it is still frags. If eurasia found, flashed and verified my winbond chip was flashed does that not mean everything is good? Why is it still fragging? Thanks for any support.

use raincoat, use raincoat, use raincoat.

next time don't remove the chip unless you are sure it will work w/o it enabled.

mark the 3-4 wires you are supposed to cut before you flash then before you type

./raincoat -p bios.bin

cut them

then hit the enter key

Eurasia is raincoat based?......Well After cutting soldering, cuting soldering I finally got my tsop flashed. I tried the 4981, 4979, and finally I used ind-bios 5003. I guess I had a bad bios file. and I also had to cut a few more wires on my xray3. Thanks for everyones help. I could not have done it without the Scene! to those of you that are using the xray3 if you are having flash problems try a different bios and cut extra wires. I cut 18,19,20,21 and 28 in addition to the ones posted. good luck....

heh, i installed the xray3, and it booted fine, and i got all ready, and loaded up raincoat and everything. backed up current bios, or what was left of it, then cut the wires, got back to my computer and went to flash the bios.. oops you didnt put the new bios on HD, you idiot... strip the cut ends and reconnect, still frags..

it would erase the windbond fine, but the flash would ahve some odd error, and not complete..

ugh.. back to work on that mess i guess.. i'd really love to get this box back up and running.. correctly.

If it boot fine with the xray3 and no fragging then recheck all the traces you connected the xray three to as these can easily get damaged because it happend to me.

Also make sure the dvd drive is good as i think some bioses bypass the dvd drive check and some don't so put a known good dvd and hard drive in the box.

yeah, i have a good samsung dvd on there, and a 10gb seagate with evox and apps on it.

i am just going to go through and touch every point again.. the guy from xraychips.com says that its not possible to erase the xray3 when you have the 2 jumper points soldered.

oh yeah, sorry for thread jacking.. it must be related to a bad bios somehow..

Why not just buy a 10$ chip and call it a day?
