Is This Even Possible?
« on: September 05, 2004, 07:14:00 PM »

I want to flash a tsop that is fraging and I don't want to install a mod or a socket, I am not even sure if the tsop is what is wrong. Is it possib'e to run wires from each pin of the tsop on my working xbox to the same pins on the non-working xbox's tsop and then flash from evox? Or what about stacking the bad tsop on the working tsop then flashing? Wouldn't they both get flashed?

with the amount of work your talking about doing you might as well install a 29-wire chip

Either buy a 29 wire chip and fix the tsop, or just buy a 30 dollar x2.3b or 2.6 lite and just use that.

What if I make a homebrew LPC mod, that will work right? I don't care if I can't use the tsop anymore. Also how would I program the chip? Could I use my pc? the bios looks the same as the chip pictured in this tutorial:

I would like to spend as little as possible, I don't have a job right now so money is kind of tight.

Cheapmods only work on 1.0s.  You are better off just buying an lpc mod and be done with it.

You may be able to find some ppl selling cheapmods still, but I still think buying an x2 is the way to go.

I am willing to make an LPC mod I just need to know if it is possible to flash it by replacing my pc's bios with the chip and flashing it that way.

depends on ur pc's mobo. the mobo has to have a socket for the bios. not many do.

My mobo does:

So all I would have to do is boot into dos then swap the chips and flash with any utitlity the M7 bios and it should work right?

You will probably need to turn on 'System BIOS Cachable' in the BIOS too.

This means your computer wont hang when you unplug the bios, as it caches it in the RAM.

Thanks for the advice Scan-C and terrorvis, I wouldn't have thoght of either of those things. I would have used like a plastic stick to get the chip out but your idea is better and would make for a quick swap. And I know I never would have thought about setting System BIOS Cachable, I would probably give up after the first couple of lockups.
