Yeah, there is a coating on the motherboard that makes it very hard to solder.  It is like teflon almost, and its there for multiple reasons, but namely to protect against dust.  All you have to do is scrape the stuff off with a paper clip.  and if you're just scraping it off for a point to solder, you dont have to worry about messing the board up too much either.  just scrape a line out going from the one point to the other.  since you're creating a solder bridge for the tsop, there arent any traces in between, so you really dont have to be super duper mondo careful, but dont go crazy.  Use your best judgement.  It'll get all flakey and white when you're scratching it off, but its fine.  you arent going to ruin your mobo.. but, just as a disclaimer, i take no responsibility.

the problem is not getting the solder to stick...i had the solder there but there was a little to much so i pulled on it like a dumb ass and now the pads are blacked out and there appears to be nothing there to solder on to...i have tried to scrape lightly with a razor but still no go..that is why i need alternate points or something..

Yeah, follow the trace back to another solderable point.  Just make sure you don't bypass any other components.

QUOTE (FacTor @ Aug 3 2004, 03:06 PM)
i could run a wire..but on the point of the left side of the bios chip the "black" extends out to a little resistor deal, so i couldnt attach it to the resistor could i??

AS long as there is solder for you to attach to I would believe it would work - have someone else comfirm this though - but in theory it would work.
