Flashing Red, But Still Get Modchip Splash?
« on: May 22, 2004, 09:28:00 PM »

Ok... Ladies and Gents.  I have an amazing hardware issue.  So lets go thru this step by step.   To start off (I've done tsop flash to about 10 boxes, and my solder skills are excellent).  I have a v1.3 xbox currently.  I flashed the TSOP successfully.  (Note, immediately after flashing, i desoldered the connections so TSOP was write-protected again.)  It worked fine, I loaded (amongst other things) the latest beta of the NexGen dash.  Everything was working fine till i tried to run this beta dashboard.  It hung when i tried to launch it.  Nothing a simple reboot won't fix.  WRONG!!!!  Now i don't want to point fingers, but everything was working perfect up till then.  When i rebooted... I got an immediate "flashing red" on the LED.  I checked around, and the only info i could find on this error said  "bad/corropted eeprom".  Damn.  Not sure how it happened but, OK, move on.  I have an Xenium modchip from a different box.  I install it, and it boots to the Xenium splash screen no problem.  SWEET!!!  I choose one of the banks on the modchip to boot from.... and "Flashing RED".  Unfortunately, I don't understand the architecture of the xbox well enough to understand what's going on here.  The Xenium worked fine on a xbox that was FRAGing before (so i figured it acts as a full TSOP replacement).  What else, other than bad TSOP, can cause a Flashing Red problem??   I know this is place to post this question.  If anyone can answer it, you guys can.  Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I'm sure its a possibility, but i changed all the regional settings via Xenium.  It didn't appear to make any difference.

IGNORE!!!   I figured it out...  Very very dumb on my part.  I didn't realize that there was infact a difference between the eeprom and tsop.  (since the tsop is a type of eeprom, i thought people were inter-changing the name).  Anyway, I fixed it used the cromwell technique.

The Cromwell Fast and Legal way to reflash an EEPROM....
