Red Dead Revolver Owned Mytsop
« on: May 20, 2004, 01:12:00 PM »

well here is what happened about a year ago my friend walked me through the tsop hack with the 007 game. and has never given me trouble. but yesterday i was playing red dead revolver and i paused the game and clicked on the xbox live selection by accident and the game proceeded to update the xbox dashboad. franically i restarted the xbox but it was too late it seemingly overwrote my evox bios with the new MS bios.
is there anything i can do short of using the hack again to change this?
and did the update flash the bios sis it just do something to the hardrive?

nothing was done to the bios, just use an evox boot disc (or slayers) to restore evox and the MS dashbaord on C

i concur with vader.. if you don't have a original backup for your c partition the use the "C-OrigineV2Beta" from the usual places to make a restored partion on c: and e: also use the evox disk to back up your games saves on e before restoring the c partition.. hope this helps..

Just for clarification: This isn't an issue with 4981/4983 correct?

it might be, the new Live games have the newest Live dashabord (at the time of release) on the disc, but only attempt to update yours if you click the Live option, AFAIK it does this without connecting to Live, therefore the same problem will exist on 4981 and 4983

So the "Disable Xbox Live" feature on 4980+ doesn't help on the newest games?

the xblive disable feature only prevents u from connecting to live.. mainly its there so u dont accidentally get banned

think about it this way:
with the xblive hack.. its like a pc not connected to the internet... it wont update anything by itself
however, if u run a program on your pc it can update some drivers/etc to the latest on the disc

thats what happened with you. the xblive update was on the disc.. generally theyre about 50meg xbes...

if your running games from your harddrive your best bet is to delete that xbe, and replace it with a copy of the default.xbe renamed to dashupdate.xbe :)

updating your box to latest xblive dash is only bad if u use dash exploits :)

Actually you should LET it update the dash from a game disk if you haven't done so.

Then use a hacked bios that FIRST looks for evoxdash.xbe instead of xboxdash.xbe at boot.

Name your Evolution-X dash evoxdash.xbe.

That way with the mod chip on you go to the Evolution-X dashboard.

With it off you'll get the MS dash.

Finally games which automatically try to update the dash, will only do so if they really do have an updated dash available.

I had the same problem with Red Dead Revolver. NO it does not screw your tsop.
I hit live on RDR also and turned off the xbox so it wouldn't over write my thclite.
however I was to late. but since I use unleashx by default, I just ftp'd in and everything went fine as I replaced the lost files.

Is it even a possibility that one day a will be made that screws a tsop flash?

so dont worry, your xbox is fine, just replace the C:\ partition

Definetly not in europe.  There are laws against damaging peoples property like this.  MS would be sued to high heaven.  I beleive that it isn't the case in the US though.

Put a switch on your tsop write enable point, to be on the safe side.

i think there is some law that prevents the destruction of personal property (flashing a bad bios to your TSOP would be considered destruction)

there was that senator that wanted to add an ammendment to the law so RIAA and MPAA could destroy your computer if you downlaod music, i seriously doubt that would go through though, i dont belive it was ever formally introduced to congress

even if there are no current laws about it, i doubt MS would do it simply because of the critical backlash it would create, im sure they could be sued (this is the age of lawsuits) and most likely a new law would be enacted, forcing them to recall all of the "TSOP killing" games from  the market....not a situation they want to deal with

my thoughts might have already been said but no i dont think tyhat the update would be able to flash your bios and most likely i think that you would be banned if you ran it during the update i recommend as probably so many others using the slayers auto installer disc 2.5 that can be found on the #slayers channel on irc and follow a tutorial on burning a cd-rw and use that to reinstall everything but make sure you read so you dont fuck anything else up cause that would suck
