Multibios On 1mb Tsop And.....
« on: May 18, 2004, 04:05:00 AM »

first question: how can I make a multiple bios (i.e. to fit boh raincoat and x-ecuter2) on 1mb Tsop? after made this, how can I select the bios I want? with a hrdware switch? (or there are some software solution?)

second question: is ture that evox resize automatically 256k bios to fit in on 1mb tsop? (if I don't want multibios of course)... becose of I remember first release of evox told me "size error" when tried to flash 1mb tsop with 256k bios ( I use make1024.bat to make 1mb file if needed)

thank you!!!

you need a switch (SPDT) like the one below (try 3.3volts before 5v, although i don't have a picture of that point). The 1mb bios file would need to be off the form BIOS1 + BIOS1 + BIOS2 + BIOS2.  You can put another switch on A18 to split it four ways too.   (IMG:http://xbox.adamwelch.co.uk/pictures/v1.0-1.1/v1.0-1.1bios_switch.jpg)

Yes EvolutionX and raincoat 0.7 will resize the bios for you, however earlier versions of both programs didn't do this.

Perhaps I will edit the picture.  To be honest I didn't know that that was 3.3  so cheers xboxhaxorz and Lordvader129 I always used the one near that cap, every days a school day.

[edit]I have edited the picture.   Does that make sence to everyone?[/edit]

Right, I have had mine out, my multimeter I mean!  Can you confirm these findings Lordvader129?  The LPC seems riddled with 3.3v but this will be because all the data lines use 3.3v.  The 3.3v points I have identified here (using the link from lordvader) are not used for anything else as far as I know.

Again I have updated the picture.

The 1mb bios file would need to be off the form BIOS1 + BIOS1 + BIOS2 + BIOS2.  You can put another switch on A18 to split it four ways too.

Having done only LPC-mods earlier, I'm thinking about implementing this on a v1.0 (so I'm still reading up on the subject...)
I was under the impression that the VCC/GND switch only allowed adressing half of the memory, and thus one would flash with a 512K file? Or is the switch only for reading from the bios and when flashing one should always use a 1Mb file?

Other question(s) on the subject:
I read in the TSOP-tutorials about some problems using a bios that differed "too much" from the original bios. I guess forcing A19 to VCC takes care of that when using 2 different bios images, but what if I'd like to use 4 different bios images? Can A18 be switched between GND and VCC similar to A19, making just 256K of the memory visible - or would this fry the xbox?

If A18 cannot be linked to VCC, but only to GND like it's done in the "Split 4 Ways" tutorial, is it possible (still using the A19 VCC/GND-switch) to use 3 different bios images?
Is it only the original bios that checks the bios on the next 256K:s - or is this done by HW, so that non-M$ bioses also need to be paired?

I guess the question boils down to: Using 2 switches, can I boot from 3 different bios images in a bios file looking like
[ORIG + ORIG] + [BIOS2 + BIOS3]?
Or is it even possible to have [ORIG + BIOS1 + BIOS2 + BIOS3]?

you can split 4 ways using a switch on a18 (same setup with VCC and GND as a19)

once switch(es) are installed you can only flash half (or a quarter) of the TSOP at a time, however you can create and flash a  1mb bios with your selcted 512 or 256k bios and flash that before installing the switch

after installing the switch you will onyl be able to flsah 1 bank at a time
